Let me preface this by saying that I wasn't high on the Luke Fickell hire so I don't claim to be an expert in analyzing college coaches. Nonetheless, I feel somewhat disappointed with this hire given the rumors around other more exciting candidates. I find it concerning that some of our supposed "targets" took what I would deem as inferior positions - Tom Herman (FAU), Alex Golesh (USF). Doc may be on to something regarding the NIL issues with the program.

Having said that, there was a time when Scott Satterfield was one of the hottest young names in coaching. He inherited severe disfunction from Petrino when he went to Louisville and was able to have modest success. But I am always wary of a coaching jump where it seems like a lateral or lifeboat. Some folks are starting to compare this to the Tuberville hire and I can't help notice the similarities. T

Joe Burrow is the most exciting/greatest player that Cincinnati has had since The Big O! Appreciate and enjoy him why we can.

Was I imagining things or did young Joe do a mic drop with the football on the sidelines there near the the end?

..... "But it also beat a Kansas State team that FINISHED IN the top 10"....

So.... we're giving TCU credit because after they lost to KSU, KSU jumped from 14 to 10? Of course, had TCU won, KSU wouldn't be in the top 10. All of this is a little too cute.

I haven't seen any arguments that the final four has the wrong teams. The only argument I'm seeing is that the final four should only have 3 teams.

As a long time Ville fan and ticket buyer, I can say confidently I have no idea how well Satterfield will work out for the Bearcats. He won early by picking through the Petrino 2.0 leftovers to go bowling first year and then burned every bridge in the River City by getting caught looking at the South Carolina job.

His offense is run first (how about that, Doc?) and can be dull for the Win or Else crowd who showed their colors years ago by criticizing Charlie Strong’s similar approach while going 12-1. Then of course, going 0-3 against the bluelegs down the road didn’t help.

Various RUMORS heard this morning. First, he wanted an extension and a raise midway through this season and was told no or second, he and his family were upset by the Breonna Taylor protests and riots two years ago in the Ville and wanted a different vibe. Third, he has an agent who is all in on keeping his clients on the top of the “available” lists and having Satt’s name “out there”. Please, take your pick.

It was a surprise to me since he had a Top Twenty rated recruiting class “committed” and a QB and RB in the group that look solid gold. But hey, in this new world of transfer portals, NIL “collectives”, and conference “realignment”, why should anyone be surprised?

Imagine taking over a program that went 2-10, turning it into a 8-5 team with a Music City Bowl win against an SEC opponent and still struggling for support from the local media and the fanbase. That's why Satterfield interviewed with South Carolina just a little over a year into his UofL tenure.

It's a pattern with UofL head coaches too. John L. Smith, Bobby Petrino and Charlie Strong. All successful, all well paid with long term contracts, all got the hell out as soon as they could, with John L. saying what needed to be said. (paraphrasing) "UofL fans need to know where they are in the food chain!"

Big 12 offenses are not exactly run oriented, yeah? I hate to be a downer, but this one doesn't sound perfect. Fickell did.

Who are the other 4 American bands? Assuming Springsteen/E Street & Petty/Heartbreakers are near the top. Most would say Beach Boys, although some rock fans dismiss them. And there's no consensus beyond that... would love to hear your list.

REM, E Street, Heartbreakers, Allmans, Eagles

I'm a Buckeye and was rooting for USC over Utah (I went to college in Southern California and I live in AZ, its not hard to root against the Trojans) because I don't think Ohio State deserves to be in the playoff.

Then again, I'm one random idiot 1,800 miles away and Ohio State brings money and eyeballs. I'm a little surprised they weren't ranked #3 and got a rematch with Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl, but considering the amount of Midwest transplants in Arizona, I don't think Glendale (much less Phoenix) could handle the number of yayhoos that would come out of the woodwork for that one.

I'm going to be in Cincinnati this weekend (cheap airfare...gee, I wonder why?). I got tickets for my grandmother and I to see the holiday train display at Union Terminal because I'm nothing if not nostalgic. I'm also a sap: Tickets were $10 each, plus parking.

I haven't lived in Cincinnati since 1996. Back then, the trains were at CG&E (nee Cinergy) on Fourth Street and were free. I know times change but am I getting ripped off? Then again, I'll take any excuse I can to spend a few minutes at Union Terminal, what a gorgeous building. I'm grateful my parents took me there for the museums in the 1990s. Ditto the Zoo.

Sorry for the rambling. As an ex-pat, what are some of your all preferred haunts if you've lived away for a while? I know the Carew Tower observation deck has been closed forever and probably won't re-open any time soon (if ever). I've been up there before in December and I live in Northern Arizona, the cold doesn't bother me.

10 bucks is cheap for the train display, Ryan. It’s as good a display as anyone might see in their lifetime.

I take visiting friends to any one of the museums. Most Cincinnatians have no idea that many of our museums have world class collections. Here’s just one small example; How many of you know that the Taft Museum has an incredible Victorian Christmas display?

What?

Who would want to see old German Christmas items?

Well…you would! Trust me. People travel from all over the world to see that display and it never disappoints.

I find a resemblance of Pete Johnson's style in Mr. Perine's style. Once Perine has a start....to quote a line...."I pity the fool"...that tries to take him straight on.

That 3rd and 11 pass by Joe Cool was one of his best ever. Special, special young man.

Fall On Me one of my favorites from my favorite R.E.M. album. A special, special band!

Re the CFP, I think you have it backward. An expanded field would do nothing to identify the best team. This is the year the old BCS would have sufficed with two teams - Georgia and UM.

Re UC, I heard that they offered Fickell close to what UW did. Where UC lacks is in the salary pool for assistants, which UW doubled, and in NIL money. That said, I am underwhelmed by the hire. Fingers crossed it works out.

Cincy Reigns is the new charitable NIL collective that should measurably increase NIL money for Bearcat athletes. If the donations are tax deductible, I’m sure plenty of fans will contribute what they can when they consider charitable donations.

I don’t know much about Satterfield but he was tracking for a top 20 recruiting class this coming year. I’m sure UC is expecting him to bring along those recruits as well as his experienced coaching staff. Fickell did, and continues to do, the same when he ran to the poutine prairies and the cheese lands of Cupola and Colby.

I have said for 30+ years that UC cannot compete financially with most of the Power 5 schools (even though they will BE one come July 1, 2023) - especially from a "Booster $$$" standpoint. They do NOT a T. Boone Pickens (or his trust fund) available to write 8-figure checks every time a major expansion/upgrade is needed and the deep-pocketed folks that have funded the facilities upgrades for the past 25 years are not likely to be able to continue to do so indefinitely. Unless someone strikes oil over in Burnet Woods or Dr. Pinto wins the next $2B Powerball drawing, they are going to have to get VERY creative in how funds are raised for things like the "NIL". Bearcats fan since 1967 and alumnus since 1983; I live/die for their football & basketball teams, but it's a whole new ballgame and I hope and pray they don't get left in the dust...
