Doc, you amaze me my friend absolutely love almost every single article, Hit King is a really good friend and has done numerous favors for me , in exchange I have given him solid advice and been a advisor on NBA and College Hoops, and Pro Football some losers mostly winners. I will say he is very worldly and much more intelligent than most people think. He always makes me feel good with his humor

I’m not a big gambler but I am going to look into the current offer for $200 in free bets deal. If there’s no further commitment to bet more, I’ll do it. I’ll put all $200 on The Men Monday night. If I win, free money and I walk away. Lose, wasn’t my money to begin with. Have to read the fine print though.

Paul, having punched the clock for the final time earlier this year with 45 years in my “”after college career”, I definitely concur in your assessment of “post business world employment.” The 7 DAY weekends are amazing! Not to say that there isn’t a list of “assignments” to be tackled most days. It’s just that the worry/stress (or angst as you call it) is lifted off the shoulders so as not to spoil vacations or interfere with falling asleep at night! 😉

An attention to detail is what will eventually be the Bengals downfall. Receivers stopping on a route, Burrow’s mechanics tipping his timing on throws (leading to deflected/intercepted passes), a DE blowing his contain assignment, or, like you said, our place kicker suddenly being less than automatic.

All things they can overcome against the TBs and NEs of the NFL but not against the playoff types.

There’s a certain amount of cockiness or over confidence as well. Losing one of those last two games may have been better in the long run.

Addictions are tough, no matter the form. Not a gambler. Went to Vegas once and saw two Cirque shows, visited the Liberace museum, and visited Red Rock Canyon. I had set gambling money to play with and won a hundred dollars the first hour. Bought some tennis shoes to memorialize it. Ended up losing the stash. As was intended by Vegas.

I have a pack of cards from Acoma casino with hole drilled through the deck. Tribal face cards. That was a few years earlier. Cajoled into entering the facility. Spent a whole dollar on slots. Spent considerably more on a pot purchased in Sky City. Beautiful piece.

I do get tired of hearing broadcasters discuss the betting odds of almost everything. The irony is not lost on me.

I liked when NKU campus shut down for that week with Christmas and New Year. Glorious. Salaried and paid. Wouldn't get paid again until the end of January, but worth it.

Doc, your bracketology is off. If the seedlings stay the same, after the Chargers at home the Men would not get Baltimore/Jacksonville… that winner would go to #1 KC. The Bengals would travel to Buffalo. The opposite of easier. The only way it gets easier is securing the 1 seed and letting the Bills & Chiefs beat each other up in the divisional round. Staying at 3 is a brutal road when there are 3 great teams.

Being of a certain age and growing up in rural SE Indiana before it became more or less a suburb of Cincinnati I am amazed at the change in attitudes towards gambling. As a teenager there were rumors that you could participate in a "numbers" game out of certain dive bar. Another place was rumored to have a special room in the back with slot machines. When friends of my parents said vaguely that they were going "out west" on vacation we understood that the destination was in the Nevada desert, but it was taboo to openly talk about these things and folks certainly didn't want their reputations tarnished by being labelled as gamblers. After college, jobs took me to different parts of the country for a number of years. Upon returning to the area it was a bit of a shock to see the long lines of cars headed to Lawrenceburg's river boat and to witness the openness with which locals talked about their trips to "the boat". The flood gates have been opened and they won't be closed again. As others have noted, the casinos and books will do well. The "regulars" not so much.

As for the formula for winning offense it has always been about not turning the ball over and having some balance. Through 15 weeks the Team that wins the Turnover Battle wins 71% of the time.

I’m huge OSU fan and remember watching Arthur being one of the best Buckeyes on the field and helping them into the modern era of throwing the football. What an incredible tragedy. I learned a phrase along time ago- Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. But for some, they have to which, I guess, is different.

It's about time that sports betting is legalized in every state. It's ridiculous that you can buy scratch-offs, play lottery games, casino games where they are legal and especially horse racing but can't legally throw $5 on a football game. It is frustrating here in KY to see the narrow minded evangelical idiots block it while at the same time celebrate horse racing and the bourbon industry (I love a pour of bourbon responsibly but the negative impact that alcohol has had on society will always greatly outweigh sports betting).

Paul Dehner had a nice article about this Bengals team being the best in 34 years. It stinks that the injury bug could possibly derail a special season but this team is so resilient. Cannot wait for MNF against Buffalo.

As a horseplayer of some years, I have enjoyed many afternoons at Kentucky’s world class racetracks. For me, there is a degree of cultural entertainment beyond wagering in that environment but that’s as far as I go. Lottery tickets and one arm bandits never had the same appeal but they do for others, so I have no objection.

Also, it’s better that the state has some control over the action for a variety of reasons but then they are the exploiters just like any criminal element that preceded them historically. And let’s face it, “investing” in stocks and bonds is just a polite way of saying “gambling” so there’s that.

Legalized sports gambling was inevitable and there will be problems due to it, but it appears to have enough popular support to justify the questions that will arise. Seeing Terry Bradshaw pump ads for it on Fox NFL will always be weird, however.

You can call me crazy, but it’s kept me from going insane. They finally choose to receive, throw to the best receivers in the league and if you only play well one half you deserve to lose !

I retired for about 5.5 months. It was kind of nice, but I don't have a lot of hobbies to keep me busy. I decided to take a job in my old field on a part-time basis with what has turned out to be a fantastic company. I'm also volunteering at a local school once a week as a literacy mentor for 1-3rd graders. It's a nice balance.

My job required heavy use of statistics so I never gambled since I understood the probability that that the house wins. The only bet I would make would be against my team so they would have a better chance to win. I observed two people ruin their lives when gambling was made available to them. The first was our secretary in St Louis who gambled away her house at the riverboat casino. The second was a young couple who sat at our table on a cruise. He won at a slot the first night and spent the rest of the cruise at the casino, and she left him.

The Bengals were fortunate to win due to Reader stuffing the run play and exposing the runner to Bell stripping the ball. The press seems to give no recognition to Reader and didn't even mention his involvement in the play. He and Wilson are the unsung heroes. The loss of Collins will make road to Super Bowl much harder.

I am happy to see an article in the Enquirer this afternoon regarding Reader's play. Perhaps someone read my post, 🤣

Re: Retirement. Couldn't agree more wholeheartedly. It's very sweet and occasionally I'll do something I don't want to do to please my wife. She's retired too and has to put up with listening to me most of the time so I feel I owe her that. Plus sometimes she has a good suggestion.

I do agree with a lot of these comments here, and every time we legalize another ante I can't help but see Biff Tannen's take on the future. A long road to get to that point from here of course, but... seriously, can't that Redhawk kid take that money and actually <I>play</i) sports to get a similar or better rush?? Or go on vacation, or do anything real?

Side note: At first glance, I really thought that header image was Bench's Home Plate Restaurant ( http://mallsofamerica.blogspot.com/2006/08/northgate-mall.html ) – which of course would piss him off.
