COVID-19 Vaccines Work - CDC

Prevention of transmission is a benefit from taking the vaccine. Just because some people can still get the virus, and some can transmit it even though they have been vaccinated, those risks are significantly reduced. Further, the severity of illness is greatly reduced.

Jay, that was a great read, thank you. I'm very envious that you are on Marco Island. I'm a Florida "Girl" (how old do you have to be to give up that title??) and really miss all of it. Have a Captain and Coke for me with a slice of lime, could you, and give my warmest regards to that beautiful ocean, those sunrises/sunsets and all else that places you in paradise.

Good read today, and excellent tune of the day Doc. Thanks J and Doc. Merry Christmas to you both.

Didn’t realize it was a twofer today, but Darlene Love wasn’t going to post herself.

I wonder if Letterman has her on his Netflix interview show. Can’t check because WiFi still cutting out.

Fauci et al never said vaccine and boosters prevent infection. What they do, is keep you out of the hospital.

Richard, you are wrong. Fauci did say that. To argue otherwise is revisionist history and gaslighting Come on, what was the point of any vax mandate if the vax was not intended to stop transmission. Here is the link to Fauci - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrjMLONm-Bw

Thanks for reading and commenting. Merry Christmas.

If you listen to the interview for longer than two minutes, you will discover that Fauci makes it a point to say vaccines keep you safe from serious illness, not from getting Covid. You can still get the disease, but your chance of winding up in an ICU unit are greatly reduced. This agenda has been stated over and over again on CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, CNN, NPR and MSNBC. How could you have possibly missed this? I'm beginning to see the whole agenda being started to get Ron DeSantis elected president. It's going to be Congressional committees run by Republicans trying to discredit Fauci, and saying the vaccines don't work. Merry Christmas to you, as well.

So why did we have vax mandates? To keep us from killing Grandma, remember? If prevention of transmission was not a benefit, the mandates were garbage. You are gaslighting me, Richard.

Dear Irish, The likelihood that you will spread the virus, or have to go to the hospital are greatly reduced.

There it is! Darlene Love! Wouldn’t be a TML Christmas without it!

Almost wish the Men were playing at home tomorrow. Would have loved the comparisons to the Freezer Bowl and the shots of the river steaming away.

Outstanding Guest TML again, Jay, and thanks to Paul as well for continuing TML as a whole. Merry Christmas to all of youse!

Reading on phone. WiFi still not reliable after five hour power outage. Electricity and furnace seem mostly ok. KU

Cable box and WiFi (Frankfort Plant Board) not so much. Sixty years ago we marveled at cable as part of utility bill.

Merry Christmas, Jay. I’m looking forward to Bengals game tomorrow. Easily entertained. With any luck the digital cable will be working. Kitchen tv has analog cable and does the job.

Main goal is for furnace to get us back up to normal range. Last I checked we had climbed to 61. Outside is one degree with gusty winds.

Merry Christmas back to you, Kathy. Get warm and stay warm.

Doing our best. If the wind would calm down that would help. Thanks.

Jay, I do not follow Twitter because I spend too much time as it is on social media. Anything coming from Murdoch's people or Musk's people are subject to cynicism. Both their last names start with "MU" as in "manipulating u". Call me a cynic with all breeds of billionaires. I'm certain there are some altruistic ones, but it ain't either of these guys.

I subscribe to the Economist, the AP, the Guardian, Reuters, the BBC, CBC (Canadian Broadcasting), Apple, 1440 Digest and the NYT (this one is the most biased of the group, but the news is usually accurate, the op-eds are less so). All have free apps for smart phones except the Economist and the NYT. I don't hold any of those services as gospel, but all are regarded by industry watchdogs as the most accurate and non-biased, (NYT is rated as somewhat liberal). So, I think I have a healthy approach.

I just checked on the hate speech data and Twitter last week. The Brookings Institue, Barrons, the Guardian and Politico say that. The spike happened AFTER Musk's takeover. He claims to be working to get it under control, but since he fired 50% of his staff off the bat (the core asset of the company and another 10-15% resigned following Musk's ultimatum to work around the clock), he does not have the qualified personnel on staff to carry out his wishes. In fact, he tried to call back numerous key people that he had originally terminated. Time will tell what happens with Twitter. Musk polled 17.5M Twitter followers and asked if he should resign. 57.5% said yes. You must be in the 42.5%. Meanwhile, Tesla stock has gone from $352.26 per share down to$125.35 YTD. Musk's extracurricular activities have created a crisis of confidence from investors that previously supported him.

I have a longtime friend that swears by the Wall Street Journal--a Murdoch owned company and the mirror image of the NYT--accurate news reports but somewhat biased op-eds (WSJ is rated with a conservative bias). He thinks the world of Musk. I agree that the journal has good reporting, no argument there. But we disagree on our views of Musk.

All I can do is to continue searching for facts, the real variety. Kellyanne Conway let the cat out of the bag and in plain light of day. The Trump team lived, operated on and breathe "alternative facts". America deserves better. Good luck to you.

Couple of quick points. NYT is way more than somewhat liberal. All of your sources are. Even the WSJ news side is liberal. It is their opinion pieces that slant right.

All of your sources refused to report on the Twitter files. They are doing you a disservice, I only started following a few people on Twitter this year and appreciate the news and perspectives I get.

I have no insight into hate speech volume vs. impressions other than what I provided. I think some odious speech is far preferable to the FBI and White House that Twitter should remove certain posts.

Logging off for the day. Happy holidays.

Good work today, Jay. I like the commentary, big fan of Elon. He’s done more than anyone in NASA and the Auto Industry in one lifetime that is far from over.

Landing rocket boosters, going to Mars, forcing the fogies in Detroit to develop cleaner vehicle powertrains. Now people hate him because we now realize nobody owns his a**. Not even the US government.

Not sure if I give him the nod over the guy standing up to Putin, but there is obviously more to the story on his relationship with Old Joe and his family than we will ever know. I bet some of that $100B makes its way back to Delaware after being thoroughly laundered first. Proxy war indeed.

Imagine if DT was Prez and the vax didn’t really work and Russia invaded Ukraine. Off the charts hypocrisy.

In 2010 the Sugar Bowl was not a meaningless bowl game. I am just as upset with Fickell leaving as I was with Kelly, but their was a huge difference (undefeated season going into bowl game in 2010) in Sugar Bowl vs Wasabi Fenway Bowl.

Welcome back, Jay! The return of TML is indeed this year’s blessed event. Obligatory comments:

• “I will give credit to Duke and Zac and the rest of management for finally joining the modern NFL and getting this right.” I cannot and will not do this ever. If there were any real “social justice” in life, the Brown Trust legacies would have been relegated long ago to replacement obscurity for the pain and misery of the Lost Decade.

• Brady gossip in TML? Sure, why not. Readers of the print WSJ were treated to a multi-page Saturday magazine spread last year that suggested all was hunky-dory in Tampa Bay. Now, you’re saying the dojo man was in flagrante delicto with the missus at the time? Oh, the delicious hypocrisy of reality TV…

• The World Cup? I watched it too! The only problem is I have never learned the rules of futbol and can’t remember why this is OK and that isn’t. Nonetheless, when history is being made, I want to be a witness regardless of comprehension. As for the head-to-toe tats on the participants, well, there’s even more I don’t understand!

• Finally, I support politics mixed with sports in TML and welcome your views anytime. However, I do think we need a separate venue at each stadium where the athletes can go pregame or post game for that matter and make their political protests and speeches to the fans who actually care what they think. Then, when done, they can rush to the locker room and playing field and do what they’re being paid for without ruining the moment with personal opinions. Brilliant, don’t you think?

Now, back to my New Year’s resolutions…

I thought today's column was very entertaining. I'm pretty sure Jay is my attorney, but haven't seen him in years. That's probably a good thing! We can all have political differences and remain friends. It would do us all good, me included, to move away from political tribalism. Maybe actually stop demonizing each other. Turn off political TV, drop Twitter and Facebook (is your life really better viewing all that crap, which BTW, is just a cash grab), and spend that found time volunteering to help others. Your life will be more enriched, I guarantee it. That, my friends, is the Christmas spirit.

I think this Bengals team takes every game seriously, and with the D playing well, Iike the Bengals, 24-10.

Loved the TML today. I’d take issue with some of the political points but in the spirit of the season..that, and they were well-presented. Will always think BKs leaving before the Sugar Bowl is a bigger deal than Fickell’s leaving before the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. Disappointed to learn he was mentally leaving before the end of the season. I do think that contributed to the loss to Tulane and a shot at the conference championship. Poaching coaches begat the “buy-out” clause, which hasn’t stopped much. I’m a little concerned where the NIL money will lead.
