Ha, I agree on the tipping. It's crazy. As for the Bengals, I have 2 comments. First, the OL shouldn't be a surprise. Replacing 4/5 AND TE is going to take time even if they actually have talent (which remains to be seen). I really believe this year is a partial rebuild and next year should be a much better year. Second, why are they not utilizing Chris Evans. The guy impresses every time he gets a chance, but they insist on using Perine. Evans can even line up as a receiver. I don't get it. I also think Mixon is a good back, but not great. He's not going to be part of the Ring of Honor. He definitely ain't Chubb-caliber. But I'm laying it on him. He's okay, but not great.

High noon at the not O.K. Paycor Corral. In fact, the offensive line play we all have witnessed the past two weeks is more akin to Golden Corral; a buffet line of has-beens, no-beens , and a rookie Bison who just might be the best lineman on the team.

Is Pollack like several Bengal position coaches before him? All hat and no battle? I don’t know. I do know it was Pollack’s idea to sign Collins. Right now, Collins is playing like he learned how to block at a Jackson Carman summer band camp.

Are you taking requests for Tune of the Day? Always like when you feature Southside Johnny. Like you have mentioned, he could have been as big as Springsteen if the drugs/alcohol didn’t get him.

Tim, Doc’s choice of some of his music often leaves me wondering if he was one of those kids on American Bandstand who said, “I like the beat because it’s easy to dance to.” The only problem, as far as my mind takes me, is that I get an odd feeling that Doc dances like Elaine from Seinfeld; all knee jerk legs and forearm shivers. Anyone know if that’s true? :)

I can’t see Paul being an American Bandstand kid. I don’t think Van Morrison or Southside Johnny were on Bandstand. I have never danced with him , so I don’t know what his dance style is.

I meant that Doc enjoys a wide range of music. Some of his music he has linked to through the years reminds me of Bandstand and Doc looks a lot like the kids that were on that show when I watched it as a youngster. Doc has great taste in music. I listen to some of the old stuff he has suggested that I haven’t heard before and also some of the new music he finds.

Agree. Love the old music he references. OG music is the best!!

First off, I share your affection for Van Morrison. However, if you don't feature And The Healing Has Begun at some point, I am going to start to question your sanity.

Secondly, before the Red Rifle showed up and secured several first-round playoff losses in a row, the Bengals made the playoffs two years in a row exactly one time before that (1981-1982). Not even the great Boomer teams could do it. 1989, they started 4-1 and flamed out after that to finish out of the playoffs. So, while 0-2 has many folks panicked, history says it is to be expected they won't make it back this year. Now, if they turn it around and make it and go back to the Big Game and win, I will be pleasantly surprised and very happy. Otherwise, I'm not losing my mind over this season.

Welcome back Doc! Tipping is a problem in US society.

If I go to the local grocery and walk down an aisle to buy soft drinks, beer, ground beef, or paper towels I don’t tip the clerk for ringing up my order and taking my payment. And don’t even start talking about self checkout!

If I go to a bar like you mention & I get to or have to serve myself beverages, I don’t feel a need to tip anyone for merely delivering my check and collecting my payment.

If I go in for a carry out food order I will tip because most of the time the person helping me is likely doing double duty answering phones and waiting tables for so many unknown (to me) reasons.

Your insight is spot on Paul. Hoping the Bengals funk is a gone and the team unites! My husband and I tip 20% and sometimes more. With the workforce be challenged more today, you will see the lack of personal interaction and more of “you do it yourself’ experience’s.

If I were Taylor, I'd probably stick with the program this week. Another O-Line failure would be catastrophic - no denying that. But I can't see how installing a new scheme on the fly would be any better. You have to believe that at some point, these guys will find something resembling a Groove.

And I agree wholeheartedly that BC should be calling the plays.

I agree with you on the CC tip thing. I find it particularly galling at Pro sports venues. There are few things more irritating than being asked by a billionaire, who just sold me a $15 beer, to help him pay the employee he's too cheap to pay himself. American Consumers are a truly abused species.

I forgot to comment on the tip thing and I agree with what you said. I have a hard time tipping especially when the beer is in a can or bottle. Like...all you did was turn around and grab it and press buttons on the ipad/terminal. I still tip, but it feels like I shouldn't need to in those instances.

Well, something needs to change. If Taylor isn't going to give up play calling to better focus on the "macro" issues of game management, fine. I hope he's smart enough to see that they need to do something different. I don't like "dink and dunk" offenses that much myself, but this line still stinks. They aren't prepared and if they don't improve dramatically Frank Pollack should be fired. But also, if this line continues to struggle the offense needs to stop constantly trying to hit HR's on every passing play. Get the ball to Chase, Higgins, or Mixon in the open field somewhere and quick. Neutralize the pass rush.

It's just incredibly frustrating. We have a generational talent at QB and FIVE relatively good targets and this offense can't get out of it's own way. I don't want to see them waste a year being stubborn and not adjusting. I mean, come on...it's cover 2. Not a new or revolutionary defense. If Taylor can't figure out how to beat it, maybe he shouldn't be the acting OC.

Edited to say also that Burrow needs to get smarter and fast. Know when to throw the ball out of bounds and live to see another down (without the negative yardage). He's not doing himself or the team any favors by trying to extend every busted play. He's got to play a little more intelligently to help get through this.

Count me among those questioning Pollack and the job he is "doing" as O-Line coach. Gotta get better...fast. BTW, I heard Joe Mixon say Pollack is a great run offense coach. Makes me wonder how that will translate to pass protection for Joe "Cool" Burrow, JaMarr Chase, Tee Higgins and company? Also, count me in as a "mobster" glad to have access to TML daily. Thanks Doc, it is good medicine. Even when we don't agree. Write On...

The clip of Joe Burrow saying " No more empty backfield " ! Speaks volumes . A third year player knew what his HC didn't . As far as Frank Pollack, isn't the job of a coach to make week to week, quarter to quarter, and half to half adjustments ? This guy had a whole off season ! While I agree with you that they know more than I do, I also know the old saying " my eyes don't lie ". I saw a rookie QB get injured, bombarded in his second year, and on a historic pace for sacks !

I get all this about having ZT dump.play calling duties off on callahan but is that going to be an improvement? Callahan really has never called plays before. And a big reason the Brown family hired ZT was he bought them on idea he was this whiz kid OC genius. We all know he isnt but that is what mike brown thinks he is. No way he gives up play calling duties.

Paul, you continue to put some awesome (thought provoking and amusing intertwined) words in writing. Todays comments proved more inspirational (to me) than what I hear coming from the HC of “The Men”. So glad you have chosen to remain active with pen and pad (fingers and keypad) in retirement! There are many issues with this offense, but having HC calling plays is the worst idea. Not being aware of the clock, replays, everything become problematic if you are consumed with calling next play. And

speaking of calling the next play - the Bengals' tendency to run when Burrow is under center and pass

when in shotgun is the most fundamental of tendencies. Any decent high school coach could yell from the sidelines which tendency just mentioned is about to transpire. Professional football teams can easily gear up to rush Burrow in the shotgun knowing a pass is coming. There is no excuse for such elementary play calling especially with enough talent to keep an opponent off-balance. It wouldn't surprise me if Burrow may explore his options if things don't dramatically change. He has become a sacrificial lamb for all the inadequacies mentioned above, and he might want to preserve his health rather than continue on this collision course of bodily destruction.
