I so agree. I don't keep track of Da Bears...I just am sending them my wishes for an upswing. Chicago is a great town with great people. I never felt threatened visiting there.

In the world of Bengal-dumb, Marv Lewis lasted 17 years. Zac Attac aint got nuttin' to worry about for maybe a billion years.

Is the opposite of AI Artificial Stupidity or Real Stupidity? AS or RS? Or plain ol' BS? I vote for AS. Until there is a ground swell of new ideas and thoughts in life borne of Artificial Stupidity, there will never be the necessary counterbalance that will humanize this whole bizarre movement. Of course, me suggesting such a thing might be the stupidest intelligence I've ever used. Then again, try finding Pogo Possum in any bibliographies. Yeah, think about it. Ghost writing just got realer. Boo...Who? Are we Live or Memorex? Think I'll start a AI blog, ghosted by my fake AI name, PDoc Memorex.....it's gonna be The Morning Fine Line: Fiction Or Reality?

Amazon is the new Sears x 10,000. The old catalogs are big-time nostalgia trips. The garish colors are the best part. I think it was part of an kitschy art period called Commercial Psychedelic for Business People with Zero Imagination. For straight Andy Warhol wanna-bees who never said YES! The models in the catalogs always looked like escapees from a second-rate local wax museum.

I have read so much stuff that is obviously AI generated. Missing specifics is a telling characteristic. What I'm afraid is that there is a lot of stuff that is well written and I attribute to being written by a human that IS AI generated.

Reds- They need to listen to what the GM of say Seattle are really coveting. Of all the prospects I would consider letting go is Elly. I think he may be a combination of Aquino and Billy Hamilton. A comet exploding into the league and able to get a base at will. Howevah.. He was not always the smartest baserunner and was thrown out trying to take an extra base in several important situations. His defense is above average but not great. I know Mobsters will think I'm crazy and he does have a big upside but so did Aquino and so did Billy Hamilton. Matt McClain is an Altuve clone , and I think Noelve Marti is also untouchable. CES and India are potential trade bait but they would need to get a great return for those two. Target who you want and listen to what they want. Then GO BIG 2024 is the year. We are the Rangers of 24.

Reds. I've been so overwhelmingly inundated with speculative trades, I'm just going to sit back and see what happens.

Bengals. I'm not from Misery(uh, Missouri), but I'm in a 'Show Me' state of mind. So, I'm just going to sit back and see what happens.

This AI stuff keeps escalating, so much so that I'm eventually expecting an 'I, Robot' revolution. Therefore, I'm just going to si...well, you know.

I’ve had a subscription to SI since I was a teen. I still have it but only because I keep resubscribing through a charity organization. I honestly have not really read the magazine in several years. The reason? I don’t know about AI really but I do know that the writing in SI leaves a lot to be desired.

The Reds…They are indicating that they want to make deals. If that’s true, then great but history says that is not always the case. A good reliable starting pitcher is a necessity. However, as much as I liked Sonny Gray, I can’t really fault the team for not trying to get him. They had him and he was a good fit but he was injured too often. I do believe they will have to part with either a prospect or more or possibly a starter like Jonathan India (who I like very much.). Shane Bieber from Cleveland might be a good fit.

On a personal, but probably unrealistic note…I’d love to see the Reds offer Joey Votto a deal that would not insult him or break the budget in order to get him back for at least one more season. The man gave the organization 17 seasons and he’s become a true, in my mind any, CINCINNATI RED. Bring him back…Please. It would be so great to have Joey retire as a Cincinnati Red. He deserves that and so do we fans. “Pie in the sky.”…probably, but that’s how I feel.

Taking us to baseball, huh? Trying to pretend it isn't snowing outside and my feet are freezing while sitting at the computer. I watched DaBears game against Minnesota. Bears have a bad record, but I must say I was enthralled with how much improvement they have made since the last s e v e r a l years. I was a Bears fan while growing up in Illinois. My brother lost all his beer money betting on them against all his pals who were Green bay fans. We lived on the border of Northern Illinois and Wisconsin. He could drive across the state line in 15 minutes and buy beer at 18. That was his goal when he was 18. It was sad watching him lose all those early years of his life, but we never gave up. I am impressed with Fields the new QB. He has guts and a great arm. But their defense won that game this week. Four takeaways and very impressive. I want to be a Bears fan again someday. It gives me something to look foward to...and that's pretty sad, yeah?

Haven't watched the Bearcats Basketball yet. Am too cheap (Ms. Thinwallette?) to pay for streamers. How can we cheer for a team we don't know? All this pay as you go TV is getting me down. I refuse to pay and I pay for refusing. It's catch 22.

Don't miss the Counter to Barbie..."Weird Barbie" movie. A blast by Kate from SNL.

Stay warm and shop big. Support America economy in my absence.

There’s already an AI program to catch AI generated writing. Once those two get together for a sync, literature is history.

Anyone else remember reading The National? A disaster from day 1 and only lasted a year or so but it was a great read! Murders Row of sportswriters on staff and Frank DeFord as editor in chief.

True AI story - good friend of ours teaches IT related classes across the Miami University system (IT in society, IT in healthcare, etc.). For one assignment, students had to write a paper about an IT company of their choosing. One student chose "Apple" and clearly submitted the AI version word for word - it was about apples in farming....

Not big on gifts here. The only mystery gift for me last year was a little wood sign that sits atop a tile not far from the coffeemaker. It reads "But First Coffee." We get an ornament for the tree each year, always fun when we traveled to find something in that place. For now we just wander down to Completely Kentucky on Broadway in Frankfort and pick one out. Maybe next year a trip or two will happen.

Saw the SI guy speaking out that the mag itself isn't compromised. That's a relief.

No words of wisdom on baseball trades and such. I hope the Bengals can remember how to win games even without Joe on the field. Looks like the Steelers have found their new Qb in Pickett.

Off topic completely but. Your girl Darlene Love duets with Cher on Cher's Christmas album. Christmas(Baby Please Come Home). Learned this morning that Cher sang backup for Darlene when Cher was 17 and Darlene was 22. Is that cool or what. Cher has her first Christmas album out because she mostly doesn't like Christmas music and didn't want to do one.

The Reds just missed out on Scotty Gray, it sounds like anyway. Yes, go big or go home Redlegs. Your window is short. Look fast to the west on the riverfront, the Bengals one might be closing...

No, I really don't think that is the case, but I have often thought Joe was the brains of the operation there at ol' PayJoe Stadium. I like Zac's personality. He fits Cincy to a T, but once something is tried & true a year or two, you better tweak it or it's stale and it often doesn't translate in crisis in its original form. It's a foundation, but not the ever-evolving answer. That's where The Men are right now. I don't see that changing by Monday night. Hope I'm wrong.

As a young, teen woman in the '90's (or late 1900s as I saw referenced earlier today - dear God!) who was raised on Cincy sports, was a 4-year varsity soccer player and found her passion writing for the school newspaper, SI was a pinnacle of sorts for me back in the day. This AI allegation, which I am sure is at least more than half true, is another nail in the already closed and sealed coffin of good journalism. It makes me so very sad. Again, how far the mighty have fallen...

Oh, as for gifts...at this stage of life I am blessed not to need a darn thing and don't want anyone stressing over 'what to get' me. I told my kids and hubby if they want to get me something, I like "experience" gifts. Let's go see a show, take a mini trip, got throw axes. I don't care, I just want to be with them!

I got first got an SI subscription in the early 80's and kept it until 2012 or so...it just ran out of steam plus the magic of getting a new magazine weekly was gone. It's where I first developed the odd habit of reading from back to front because I went straight to the Steve Rushin column in the back. Another hi-light was meeting Rick Reilly in person on the field at Paul Brown for a Bengals night game...he was another hero along with Deford, Kirpatrick and others. The long form is virtually dead in sports but occasionally someone from The Athletic nails it.

Can't imagine how bad things would be that you barely can tolerate your musical partner of all those years?? Lawsuits and restraining orders???

Lots of Q's around the Bengals; I can't muster the unmitigated joyful outlook of BengalBoy. At least we won't have to worry about Lou leaving for a HC job.

Doc. My go-to gift to buy for someone close to me that they will always remember is a light, packable (for travel) Gore-Tex rain jacket. A great jacket will keep someone dry in a misting or squall and they will remember it, remember you, and mention it often. I’ve done that for my wife and for friend’s kids as they head off to college. A rain jacket is something most people won’t buy for themselves but they will be very happy you did. REI has a great selection. Not cheap but worth the money.

These last 7 games without Joe will speak volumes about Zac and the coaching staff. So far, 0-1. The schedule isn't exactly ridiculously hard outside the KC game. Once Tee is back, the roster is essentially sound outside of Joe. If this team really was "built" to be a SB contender, then this roster should be able to go 4-3, maybe even 5-2 without Joe against this schedule.

This Bengals team reminds me of the Colts of the 2000s-2010s. A bend-but-don't-break opportunistic defense that has some good players, but ultimately isn't exactly dominant. A non-existent running game that works only when the passing games sets it up. A team not exactly built for weather. Average coaching. A QB that elevates the entire organization and whose play covers all ills.

If Manning went down, those Colts would literally go from a 12-4 SB contender to a 4-12 First Round Draft Choice contender. So much was riding on him. Contrast that to some of these other organizations that seem to remain playoff contenders even after their QBs go down (i.e. Niners, Steelers, Ravens, Vikings, etc).

Hey Doc, I’m the editor at SI Golf and a longtime mobster. The AI stuff was news to us on the editorial side (and not well-received news); the stories were on an affiliate site branded under SI that didn’t have anything to do with covering sports. I still stand behind the work of the journalists at SI, where there is zip, zero, zilch AI. And I know you read us regularly, so thank you.
