Good song. Always fun to read your thoughts on Bronson Arroyo. So fortunate he graced us with his presence here.

Awesome that Arroyo will be in the Reds HOF. I'm hoping to attend the induction ceremony.

Maybe the NFL could have TNF teams play on the previous Saturday to give them an extra day? I know that conflicts with college ball for part of the season, but I bet it would help at least a little.

Bronson is cool, except when he was sporting those cornrows...

Don Johnson only was cool when he played Nash Bridges, primarily because of the Cuda and because he didn't take himself so seriously...like he did in Miami Vice

While George Cooney's coolness may be subject to debate, his dad Nick always was.

My vote for cool is economist Thomas Sowell. Back in the day, his columns in the Gannett tabloid in the Ville were legendary. When they put him on PBS shows debating issues of the day with a designated leftist, it was a lesson in how to be polite, astute, and convincing beyond doubt. A recent biography of him by Jason Riley called Maverick is highly recommended.

Also, a vote for Lamarvelous is in order. The man attracts haters and doubters like no one else and it never, and I mean never, seems to faze him. He is good for the NFL in entertainment value but will never get the credit he's due since he doesn't fit the mold of a pro style QB. It's difficult to see him in a Ravens jersey but that is the reality.

Excellent choice for cool sir. There are probably a few people reading your post with hair now on fire. Speaking of polite, and astute let’s not forget Ronald Wilson Reagan..cue the outrage in 3,2,1..

Bronson was always a class act the numerous times I interacted with him. He played for 1K+ Boy Scouts and families camping out on the field at night. No fanfare or promotion, just a cool thing he wanted to do. Always just a good guy. Well deserved honor.

Regarding Bronson, I had a 20 game season ticket package for 12 or so years--while I was working. He was one of the most entertaining pitchers through the years. One summer evening, while mowing the lawn and listening on 700 WLW, Jeff Brantley suddenly started laughing uncontrollably and marveling at some indecent pitch by Arroyo. Brantley said something to the effect of "I've seen him through everything imaginable except a ball that sails 12" off the grass from the mound and then breaks into the strike zone". When a former MLB pitcher says something like that, you remember it.

Also, I agree 100% on Thursday Night NFL Football. It's a money grab by the self-worshiping NFL Top Brass that raises the risks of destroying the bodies of highly trained athletic professionals. Player Safety has to come 1st, and dropping TNF is a no brainer. The NFL talks player safety, but TNF exposes their hypocrisy.

It could work if it was played the week after the bye. Then teams would have 11 days to prepare, and 10 days off afterwards. They could stagger the byes and give all teams a slot on Thursdays, but I guess my way of thinking makes no sense.

Gotta be in top 5 of Reds all time best trades … Willy Mo Peña for Bronson Arroyo?

I fixed this paragraph for you, Doc…

I say this as an admittedly lukewarm fan of the NFL, as someone who believes that without recorded music, old cheerleaders, painted adults drinking to excess and the NFL Network, professional football would be five minutes of thrills and a game tying field goal backed by idiotic overtime rules.

Paul Newman played a lot of guys I thought were cool. Curt Flood was cool. Pete Hamill.

I always thought the coolest guys were the ones who intrinsically knew what mattered from what didn't.

Good music selection today. Enjoying the entire soundtrack now.

Agree Bronson is super cool. Met him once at casino and he talked about recording what he ate & drank before every game trying to find if anything coincided with his better games. Need more like him.

I often wonder if NFL wants Thursday games why not schedule teams who have their bye week to play the following Thursday game; would have 10 days off before and 10 days off after. It would take some creative scheduling but I would think it is possible.

Jim Jones, we saw Arroyo have his "off" games. If I remember correctly, Brantley had an opinion on that. Days of high humidity negatively affected his grips on the ball. With the less precise grips, the ball did not respond to all the Bronson wizardry, thus he was more hittable. Pulling all those unpredictable, crazy pitches out of his bag of tricks brought him his notoriety. His authentic persona further emphasized his memorable individuality.

I just posted same thing a second ago: hadn't read this yet. Great minds are clearly thinking alike here.

I'm very glad Bronson got into the RHOF. He was a very good pitcher for a good run, and he was entertaining as all get out. He was Rijo-like in that regard. Furthermore, he was the only guy on that list who deserved to get in.

Who do I think is cool nowadays? My Dad tops the list. My Dad is 86. He retired at 78. My Mom has had Parkinson's since 2014 and for the past 18 months, my Dad has been her primary caregiver, with some help from us kids and an "unskilled" nurse. My Dad fixes her breakfast and provides her with dinner every day. Sometimes that means ordering in. Sometimes that means warming up a meal my sister has prepared. My Dad has been the guy who could fix anything with a motor. He would fix people's tractors for no charge (if they supplied the parts). He lost a job (and pension) of 25 years at 49, then started a new job that lasted another 25 years. Not only that, but he never complained. "You've got to go with the flow" he says. I could write 5 more paragraphs describing my Dad. Like many of you, I think my Dad is pretty cool.

Sorry. No. The Canadian Kookaburra is not cool unless one needs a shrill siren to chase the crows from a corn crop. Pretty sure that voice hurts ears of corn, though, too.

You are describing Bono’s accomplishments and, according to South Park, Bono is the biggest turd the world has ever known. (“Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.” for you South Park fans. Great episode.)

I’m just having fun, Harry. :)

Obviously Geddy has had a stellar career but, then again, so did Zamfir and his pan flute. Oddly, they sound a lot alike.

Could not agree more on the Bronson and Joe Cool takes. I just had this exact conversation within the last 12 hours. Great stuff, as always. We need to get out to you know where for you know what, soon. (That reads much more strangely then it was supposed to)...Cheers!

Back in the days of old, there were the cool hippies and then there were the hippy devils. Bronson was/is an ultra cool hippy, Mr. Chill Himself, who could do as many amazing tricks with a baseball as a guitar. He was your archetypal blue collar intellectual, astute about the vibrations of strings, the aerodynamics of spinning horsehide, the psychology of people, and catching a ride on that last perfect wave at the end of a gorgeous Hawaiian day. He was the ultimate Mr Keepin It Real. Baseball, nay, Life needs more people like him.

Dang, I just reread that. Yes, I am after your job, Doc. Watch out; I's a-comin'.

I wish Brady would yell at me once, just so I could tell him to go pluck himself. I'd then find the nearest football and throw it at him.......and then run as fast as I can in the opposite direction. Throwing things at legends is not always the wisest life choice. And, considering my opposite-direction speed in the 40 is way down this year, maybe I'll sit this one out, and let somebody else drill Tom in the head. Lord know, He needs it. Yes I capitalized "He" for obvious reasons.
