BTW, Doc. You wrote it so early in the piece that I forgot to comment but “a series of 17 one-act plays” is a beautiful line. That’s exactly what the NFL has become. Just like a play, the Thursday “matinee” can often be an uninspired performance by tired and worn actors. And, God forbid, no one ever want’s to hear an understudy has to play QB.

In my experience, there is no better feeling than making contact with the precise sweet spot on an ash Louisville Slugger C271 or M110. It seemed like they flew just as far as off a metal bat, and the sound was infinitely better.

Maple was the rage so I got my hands on one once. I broke it on my first swing in batting practice and went back to ash. It's sad that ash is dying out. On the other hand, Blue Ash Golf Course is slightly easier now.

Last Saturday was the finest sports day I can remember. Tennessee beating Bama the way they did, Utah beating USC the way they did, Guardians beating Yankees the way they did, and Padres beating Dodgers the way they did. I watched it all at Circuit City (what I affectionately call my living room). I don't know how you can properly watch sports these days without at least 3 tv's of 50" or more. Watching those college games and then trying to watch the games on Sunday reminded me why the NFL doesn't deserve much of my attention until late December.

GO PADS!

Have a smooth trip , Doc. Sad about the ash trees. American chestnut trees used to populate the Appalachian rain forest. Small patches tended by forestry service are trying to bring it back.

The 2 minute song remark got me thinking about songs.

I like a lot of John Hiatt’s music but there is one song that drives me up the wall because of his choice of one particular word in the first verse. The song is Something Wild and the first verse is as follows:

Sometimes I don’t even move a muscle

Baby when you lie awake at night

I think I’ve got nine lives in these CORPUSCLES

Girl, you know sometimes I don’t think right

Unless you are a hematologist, when was the last time anyone used the word “corpuscle” in every day language much less in a song? It’s highly unlikely he was singing about a phlebotomist.

Anyone know any other lyrics where a word choice was so bad, or too cute, or just plain awful?

Here’s hoping the men capitalize. I’m worried about our injuries on defense. But I’m going with men to persevere. The Ash borer killed so many trees in our back yard and we spent so many thousands taking them down, we’ve lost count. Such a waste of nature.

Badge is a great short song … so is Mr. Soul by Neil Young.

Still have Bengals going 8-9. They're better than that. Tough schedule, slow start, less lady luck this year. Very talented team, but karma is a beach. Sooner or later, the heroics of all these late 4th Q miracle drives by JB fade away, and reality sets in.

Ash grows straight and tall, and is one of the straightest tree species in North America, along with hickory and maple. Good baseball bat material in all three. Ash is also an unusual firewood that burns as hot green as it does dried. Has a beautiful, tightly valleyed, black bark that fits it as tight as a glove. Wonderful tree. Huge loss. Still an excellent lumber, if you can find it.

"Life as we know it will survive." I chuckled at the humor, Doc. But, ironically, I read that and also thought of Putin. He needs to be gotten to the negotiating table or taken out. One or the other. We're running out of options.

Visited Louisville Slugger factory/museum in 2018 and we passed around a Vottomatic ash bat. This one was pink instead of black. May have been for Mother's Day or something. Breast Cancer awareness.

Sorry to see the tree go. Hope it can come back. Didn't know Joey had changed bats until today.

The Bengals will win if they make teams stop their best players. Jamar is better than the player covering him let the rec. Make plays. Thanks P.D

I believe I read an article a while back in from The Athletic about Joey V. basically making a room of his house into a humidor for all the ash bats he could get his hands on at the time.

So, does Clapton get third billing on that cover? Or were they just trying to come up with a way to balance his and Ginger Baker's egos?

Subterranean Homesick Blues clocks in at 2:20. The quality of the lyrics is subjective. But the quantity is definitely strong. :)

The Bungles have lost by 3, 3, and 2 points. Much like if Chase hadn't broken for daylight or Joe hadn't wriggled away, if they had used their brains better in those 3 Ls, we'd be going out of our mind here. Years ago when Scooby Doo was on Saturday mornings, the Bungles would be out of those games by halftime. It's a slight joy knowing they still have a chance these days.

Also: The Sinner is back on Netflix; best season so far, and Bill Pullman is getting better as an actor every time I watch him. I sez to TML check it out.
