I guess you’ve seen Bosch and Bosch Legacy on Prime? I’m not into a ton of violent content so Bosch is on the edge. Loved the Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. Also Alaska Daily with Hilary Swank is looking good so far on ABC. I love a good mystery without terror and gore.
Doc, You mentioned it but they have Terry Francona and they traded well. We've got David Bell who bats Aquino ( The Rally Killer) 5th or 6th. He shouldn't be playing but if he is... 9th. We'll wait and see on our trades but I would have held out Castillo for a top minor league catcher. Stephenson is our 1st baseman. I'll bet your mortgage that he misses significant time next year from injury from catching.
There's lots to point out about the current 'leadership's' ineptitude, but the two that stand out for me are the '2 years too long' contract for Joey, and the disastrous signing of Moose. I initially liked the Moose deal, until I delved more deeply into it. Bad! Maybe the Castillo trade will resemble the Lindor trade, the one that really boosted the Indi....Guardians into a contender. Guess we'll see.
I agree with you about the Early Times BiB. Delicious! If you have not tried Maker's Mark Cask Strength, give it a try. I get it at Sam's Club for $38, and it is fantastic.
1) Everytime a Castellini speaks, he should be asked about how the Guardians are doing what his franchise can’t or won’t. 2) Agree with The Patient. It started out with a clever premise and dark story. Now we’re glad the end is near. 3) Laurie had never seen Justified; I had. Terrific series. So we just binged the first two episodes on Hulu. I think you’ve seen it but possibly other Mobsters haven’t. Def something to re-enjoy - Elmore Leonard was a master of cop/criminal dialogue and the acting is great - until Yellowstone, Succession, and others premier their new episodes. (Now I remember: You think Harlan County was misrepresented. Not by reputation and stories I’d heard, it wasn’t.)
Own Justified n DVDs. My friends from Eastern Kentucky were not offended. Elmore Leonard blessed it and stayed in close touch until he died. Fourth season story ever so loosely tied to Cornbread Mafia, Bluegrass Conspiracy history. Awesome. Too bad it did not tickle Doc's fancy. Life is like that. To each his own.
The intro song, hill country rap song - done by Harlan Countians. Much of the filming was either West Va or N Carolina.
I was on the periphery of the coal business for 40 years. Seemed pretty realistic to me too - with a few to-be-expected TV embellishments - like every movie or show involving New Orleans has to have a jazz funeral happen by.
This generation of baseball and football announcers all sound the same. A very good friend of mine and I were lamenting that fact yesterday via text messages. Do you know who was an extremely underrated color commentator back in the day? Jim Palmer. For all the reasons that Doc cited about Costas (which are true). Tim McCarver never shut up. Ever. Deion wasn't right to dump that bucket of water over his head, but he wasn't wrong, either.
Stick to the plan. Just make sure the plan is a good one. We are quickly approaching the longest World Series win drought in Reds history.
Undercover on Netflix. It's a Dutch crime show. If you can handle the dubbed in English, you'll probably like it. Another is a Danish movie on Netflix called Loving Adults. Both were worthwhile.
Doc, for TV watching... Check out Welcome to Wrexham on FX/Hulu.
The show is a documentary of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny buying Wrexham AFC a 5th tier English/Welsh soccer team in Wrexham, Wales. Wrexham is a former mining and steel town and it has seen better days like the team. Ryan and Rob's mission is to uplift the play on the field while making sure to be caretakers for the club and community.
A very good watch and will help Americans understand the English/Welsh soccer system.
Wrexham AFC is getting so much love in the US that their FA Cup match is being broadcast on ESPN 2 at 8am Eastern Time this Saturday morning.
The FA Cup is like NCAA March Madness on sterioids... It's a single elimination tournament open to 700+ teams from the local pub team, to Premier League sides. The higher level teams do get byes, so you won't see a huge Cinderella story right away. FA Cup is England/Wales version of the US Open Cup that FC Cincy made a run at, while in USL and helped the MLS bid.
I had no idea ESPN was broadcasting a Wrexham match. I purposely haven’t looked at the Wrexham scores this year so as not to ruin the end of the season episodes which air tonight on FX. I will say this; I tried to buy a Wrexham jersey or training top from the club and everything is sold out.
I like soccer team jerseys with no player name on the back. I’ve worn them when I travel and they always strike up a conversation with some fan from somewhere. Anyone reading this that still wears winter sweatshirts, as Doc does, should consider wearing a soccer jersey instead. Sweatshirts are bulky and unflattering. A cotton t-shirt under a long sleeve soccer jersey is incredibly comfortable and it keeps you just as warm with almost no weight. Try it. You…will…love…it.
I was just thinking about Cleveland vs Cincy's baseball success the other day. How are they able to do it. I assume similar metro area populations = similar market. I would think Cincy might have a slight advantage being able to pull some from other close cities without teams like Indy, Lexington, even Nashville, etc. yet here we sit with 100 L's... As for TV, am I the only one who thinks this new GoT spinoff is borderline terrible and WAY over hyped?!!!
I don't pay close enough attention to who owns the Guardians and that's probably a good thing. If there is one thing the Reds were infamous for this season, it was Mr. "Where you gonna go?".
As with most things in life, you get the results you're willing to work for. My guess is that Cleveland ownership committed to finding a way to make a young team work. Reds' ownership threw up their hands and literally said the only way they could win would be to move the team.
Trying to win vs. throwing up their proverbial hands and whining about how hard it is to be competitive in small market baseball is the main difference between the Guardians and the Reds.
I worked with a bunch of men over a 40 year career that were bottled up like the Bosch character. I could relate to him from experience. I guess I really liked that he held on to his inner ethics compass. That was probably “the hook” for me. It had lots of other entertaining characters, like Crate and Barrel. Currently in the 4th season of Better Call Saul. Vince Gilligan knows how to take you on a roller coaster ride.
I'm certainly no prude but the insane amount of gambling on sports is disturbing. People can do what they want with their money, but I can't see where it's a positive trend for sports. Are people so bored by the games that betting is the only way they can get a thrill?

Enjoyed Outlaws on Amazon Prime. It has Christopher Walken. British show. What's not to love.
David Letterman interview of Billie Eilish is excellent. Netflix .
Will likely watch or listen to Seattle/Houston tomorrow. Castillo is supposed to pitch.
Good choice on The Walk. I added it to my playlist.

Proof?
My bottle is 109. It is much better than regular Maker's Mark. In fact, my 27 year old son in law has dubbed Maker's Cask Strength "Angry Corn Juice".

Justified has some of the best written/acted crooks and crazies in the history of tv.
Elmore Leonard wrote terrific cops/crooks dialogue. The writers carried that forward. Check out Robert B Parker’s “Spenser” if you haven’t.
I will, Frank. Thank you.
He also has a post-Civil War western series featuring Deputy Marshall’s Cole and Hitch. Same kind of dialogue, adjusted for the period.

Ha yeah. I had problems that Eastern ky looked like Southern California, too.

Seen Ep 1. Will be back

It's gotta be ownership, right?

I don't think House of the Dragon is bad...but so far it's not nearly as good as the first series.
Paul, I would guess you’ve watched the Bosch series on Amazon Prime. It’s as engaging as Breaking Bad. It was Prime’s #1 rated show for years.
Watched every episode. IMO not close to Bad, but very easy watching.
I worked with a bunch of men over a 40 year career that were bottled up like the Bosch character. I could relate to him from experience. Hulu.. Reboot / comedy about the reboot of a fictional comedy.
Also "The Offer" on Paramount+.
Did you ever catch "The Sinner" or "Halt and Catch Fire"?
The Sinner, yes.
Loved Halt and Catch Fire.
