Great song today…I’ve never heard of them but it’s a great song. I really like Little Steven’s Underground Garage but only listen when my wife is not in the car. She likes the more well known traditional stuff. As for my favorite Bobblehead…I’ve got a bunch…Griffey Jr., Bench, Larkin, etc; but my fav is a more unknown one….Jonny Gomes. My brother, my son and I kind of fell for Jonny when he played for the Reds. And, Jonny, while not being the face of the team or even a great player, did provide some big moments for the Reds, so much so one season that my brother, Jon, (who we call “Jonny,”) nicknamed him …Jonny POS Gomes. And, you KNOW what POS stands for. BUT…this POS moniker was given out of LOVE for the guy for his spirit and effort. Truthfully, his talent level may been POS level but he was one of our favs and we had a lot of laughs with it. By the way, Bobblehead Jonny fell off the dresser one time and broke his head. That made him even more of a fav. 😂
Watched One-Eight, Peyton Manning, for 14 awesome years in Indy and Joe B is the same guy in that he gives you a chance every year. He needs one stud WR, one solid guy who gets first downs, and a couple of role players who he can make better. And a damn good Defense, which the Bengals need in the playoffs. You cannot be top-heavy at skill and win. Look at Brady and the Pats and name more than two WR's who won SB's with him.
Gambling's chickens have not come home to roost, yet, in the public square. There will be plenty of "victims" who ruin their finances, marriages, and friendships over it. We had the same discussion years ago when casino's exploded.
I am choosing not to bring my son into the fold by asking him who we should "take" on a given game. He loves sports and I don't want him thinking about spreads and wagers. There are many fathers who are not like me. God help us.
Smart move. Lightweight gambling with your kids, like, say, betting chito chips or who washes the car, is cool. Allowing them a stake of $5 at the church festival can be great fun. But there is that nasty addictive side, no doubt. The key is teaching kids responsibility and the dangers early on, same with guns, driving, and drinking. Kids are being inundated with slick advertising selling gambling on sports events, and that aint good. Every parent has to be on guard. It's definitely troubling.
Well, he did play in 2, which were back to back, I believe. He definitely helped the Pats get into the Super Bowl. He had his best years in New England. He was a major reason they made it to the Super Bowl those years.
My Sister Rose bobble is most cherished. I requested it when a friend was an administrator at X. He came through. Picked up a Tubby Smith one at a political dinner. Pete Rose from the Riverfront closing softball game. Cobra barely able to walk out into the field, but he was there.
Fun song. Gambling has taken over sports media. Heart aches for those who fall into the pit.
Didn’t know Mandy Patinkin played a role in The Good Fight.
So, this is the year, eh? I put all my eggs in that basket last year. That didn't work out. Well, I guess it's time to get a new basket and more eggs. (Thank you sir! May I have another!?) My favorite bobble is the double no hit Johnny Vander Meer edition. I went to the game with my wife, one of our sons, and his friend from Chicago (Reds vs Cubs). I regaled them with tales of the historic performance of DNH Johnny up until they told me they'd buy me beers if I would stop. So I relented. Dabo's attitude about the new landscape of college football reminds me of how Bob Howsam treated free agency. Those Reds probably would have won a few more championships if Bob had embraced it.
I am an OG. I had sports heroes growing up. I loved Pete probably most of all, but he taught me a lesson about exalting human beings - it is a good idea not to. I thought I would never have another. Sports have become too cynical, with too much money, and too much exposure. I did admire Joey Votto, as a person as much as a ballplayer. He was different. But now, along comes Joe Burrow. He makes me feel 11 years old again. He is the coolest cat ever seen around these parts. He is Clint Eastwood in "A Fistful of Dollars" telling the undertaker to "get three caskets ready" as he heads for a shootout. On his way back, he says, "make it four."
So yes, as long as Joe Burrow is healthy, we have a window.
I told my kids, admire them for what they do on the field, not who they are off it. Lots of athletes aren't role models. Lotsa athletes need role models.
There were four schools who got zero players in the transfer portal this offseason: Three service academies, and Clemson. That should tell Dabo something right there, even though I admire what I think he is trying to do. To paraphrase Churchill, no matter how beautiful the plan, occasionally you have to stop and take a look at the results.
My view of The Men this year is based on a simple truth – you can’t sleepwalk through the first few games. Surely, Zac and Saint Joe and hopefully all the key players have internalized this as well. If not, the AFC North is ready to put the Bengals in a hole they won’t get out of quickly. Last year was Exhibit A.
As for the explosion in gambling, there will be victims. I am a longtime horseplayer who made a critical decision as a young man to develop self-control as my personal price for participating. I know how to hold, and I know how to fold as Kenny would say and kept it as entertainment instead of a maniacal obsession. Between the smart phone and its technology and now the societal approval of sorts to have it online, we’re in treacherous waters in my opinion.
Finally, my favorite bobblehead is Rick Pitino! We could argue about all the stuff that has gone on around him over the years but, in my opinion, there is no better man to have on your bench in the college game. Now that money is on top of the table, I have little doubt he will be one of the most successful transfer portal kings. And, unlike some other Ville fans, I’d take him back in a heartbeat. When his birthday comes up in two weeks, I’ll be celebrating that day too – just a year younger than the Coach!
I was at PGA National playing golf right after Pimpino got in trouble at Louisville and saw a guy with the hat on. I asked him what he thought. He shook his head, cracked a smile, and said "well he's a piece of shit, but he's our piece of shit". Haha.
I have no idea why Zac use to think he could hit the ground stumbling but he did. Imagine Say It’s So Joe having home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
I have that Patino bobblehead but the bobble doesn’t last long. Like Rick, I think it suffers from premature bobble-ation. 🤭
Breaking News. Jamar Chase in full pads walked onto the practice field with Tee Higgins. I guess all in right in the world now. Till he pulls up with a soft tissue injury.
You're right about inflated urgency-but it's hard to not feel that way when you include: a)The team's relative success without Burrow last year, b)The impending departure of Tee, c)The much easier schedule this year, and d)The made-for-TV storyline of Burrow and Chase winning it all in NOLA. Plus let's be honest-the beginning of every NFL season fills every fanbase with some sort of sense of urgency-even if it's just eagerness to see their high draft picks play. This is why The League rules the roost.
That is a crazy amount of wagering dollars. It is amazing how (for whatever reason) football is especially suitable for betting. Part of it is because games can play out in a myriad of ways-not just in result, but in character (a shootout, a slogg-fest, a clock-sucker, a big play bonanza, etc.) When you pick a game, you're trying to predict the tone and feel as much as the final score. It's so much fun. The 4 leg +930 parlay I hit with $10 of bonus bets was a great start to the season. If I can win enough to take the family to Ruby's like last year, it'll be a great season.
I have a bunch of bobbles boxed up-had a few on my desk until I switched jobs. I loved the Puig and the Dusty toothpick holder.
Dabo will figure it out or he won't. Change happens-and you adapt or die. We grew up down the street from the defunct Fisher Body plant which had fueled the Hamilton, OH economy for decades. Instead of whining about it-my dad used it as an example (and reminder) of why we needed to go to college. The landscape of NCAAF has shifted dramatically and those who best navigate this brave new world will be the winners (how 'bout them 'Canes?).
First of all, great find for the tune of the day ! I was dancin around the Pirate Den ! I'm askin' cause I truly don't know. Chase has TWO years left on his contract. Does he get fined for not practicing, or paid while in street clothes ? Also, while he's pacin' and grinnin" around the complex , how is that a good thing while his teammates are sweating and working for their first W of the season ? And what if he got rolled during practice ? Would he be considered a spectator ? Come at your own risk ? As for Dabo, I do admire his stance, but , I wonder what his administration, his boosters, and his team think ? Nothin' but crickets so far. I'm beating a dead horse but as long as the oline protects Burrow, the WhoDeys have a chance.
My Jerry Garcia playing the banjo from Grateful Dead night a couple of years ago at the Reds game is a good one (Bobblehead) but I think my favorite is still the first one I ever got Marge and Schottsie
Honorable mention Tom Browning sitting on the rooftop Reds Bob Ross, Adam Dunn dressed up like he is going to a night club. Still can't figure that one out.
I think you are spot-on that this year is the best chance for 'the Men' to win the Super Bowl. It is ironic that Chase may be diminishing his chances to win a ring during his career. To give the Bengals a chance to win this weekend, can you please put a small wager against them?
Doc, if Clemson fires Swinney for his anachronistic stubbornness, he’ll quickly be hired by either Castellini or Mike Brown. He would fit perfectly with either franchise. LOL

Fave bobblehead: Edgerrin James with gold teeth.

Edelman, Deion Branch and…
Randy Moss.
Did not win a SB…
Well, he did play in 2, which were back to back, I believe. He definitely helped the Pats get into the Super Bowl. He had his best years in New England. He was a major reason they made it to the Super Bowl those years.
Sister Rose looks a lot like Marty. Am I the only one who noticed this?
Bobble head ideology; it's real and it's coming at us fast. To the caves, everybody.
Joe Beryl Love (Ya a Bunch, You Big Guy) makes or breaks this season. He plays, they win. He sits, they stay home. Running game looks non existent.
Agree on your assessment of Burrow. As Burrow goes, go the Bengals, no doubt.
Groovy song groovy.
Huggins is only bobble I have now and he is in the closet, still in unopened box. Who knew?

If he got the contract he wanted, now it is even more important to win it all this year. They won't be able to keep other key players next year.
Sometimes winning teams manage to keep winning players to keep the run going....unless a family member is pushing for more money.

Jerry Garcia Reds bobble is also my favorite, followed close behind is The Blue Blob (Go X!).
Doc, I would double your money and give you $6 for the Sr. Rose Ann Fleming bobblehead.
Nice touch putting her next to Coach Huggs. She has helped many student/athletes keep on the straight and narrow. Maybe she can do the same for Huggs.
