Count yourself lucky if you missed the UC-NKU game. I caught a streaming version, and it turned out to be a steaming version, if youknowwhatImean. Things are not right in Clifton, not at all, re hoops. I expected improvement from last year. Turns out they're worse at this point.

Your boy Trump has announced. Right after the "Red Wave" disaster. I'm sure you have a spin doctor thing ready in rebuttal, but good golly, even Rupert has quit on Mr Pinocchio. Here I thought only Democrats ate their own. Turns out all politicians are cannibals. Trump just happens to be the worst of all time.

P.S. I like Taylor Swift, too. You are no longer alone here.

Jay, great job as always.

I can't stomach Taylor Swift but I do have a soft spot for Ambrosia...

Nice work Jay! I never thought I would see the day were Crypto was discussed on this forum. In some ways I believe this FTX disaster will be good for the Cryptocurrency sector as whole. There were way too many tokens/schemes that were introduced to the sector over the past 12 months and a lot of investors will feel the pain. This nefarious activity overshadows coins that have a tremendous value proposition such as BTC. The world deserves a decentralized/non-sovereign currency that is not manipulated by politicians.

I agree on the Crypto shake out. Kinda like back in the day when you could do an internet search w Kudzu or AskJeeves etc and nowadays the majority revolves around Bing/Google. I don’t have much tied up in these electronic nickels so in my opinion thinning the herd here is a positive.

The US had that until 1971. It was called the Gold Standard. Nixon decided to decouple the US dollar from gold and started the current fiat system. Need to go back to tying the US dollar to gold.

I tried all morning to grab concert tickets to Tyler Childers in KC only to get the heave ho from Ticketmaster. Miss the old days of going to JC Penney to buy tickets. Now the fun begins, Taylor Swift and Tyler Childers tickets go on sale to the public at the same time tomorrow.

If you have no idea who Tyler Childers, he is just a kid from eastern Kentucky trying to save country music. As PDoc would say, check him out.

I read today that Ticket Master had 3.5 million people waiting in the queue to buy Swift tickets when the site crashed. If all of those people were able to buy tickets, and of course they all couldn’t, she would have needed 900 stadium venue concerts to handle that volume. Amazing.

You made me laugh with the JC Penny comment. I think I remember going to Elder Beerman or Rikes in Dayton in the late 70s to buy tickets for J Geils at Hara Arena or the Commodores at UD Arena.

Funny about Tyler Childers. I heard "All Your'n" yesterday at lunch and thought about using it for the song of the day. Wonderful song. I also love "Feathered Indian" by him. Good luck with the ticket procurement.

Thanks for reading.

Hara Arena was an awesome place for a concert in the late 70’s. Festive seating and pretty much no rules applied. I saw Rush there on the Hemispheres tour (I think) in 1978? Tickets were like $7. Not sure I would admit to going to a Commodores concert..just saying

Awesome takes on the bullet points today, Mr. Brinker. Welcome back.

Ruhle should take the money and run, but he won't ... unfortunately, the narcissistic trait a lot of coaches have will bring him back into the fold somewhere.

The fact UC was even in the running for a top-rated recruit hopefully speaks to a building momentum in Clifton regarding my alma mater's hoops team. That's glass half-full, though ... glass half-empty is they were handed their hats by NKU the other night.

Trust me, Ben Mezrich (Bringing Down the House, Bitcoin Billionaires, The AntiSocial Network, etc.) is probably already working on the book on FTX, which will then have movie rights sold. This whole situation is a disaster, and many celebs/athletes will take a hit from it. Whether those in government who are also involved take a hit, is yet to be seen. We all know how that story goes, and has gone for decades and decades.

We all have our guilty pleasures when it comes to music, Taylor Swift included. Kudos to you for acknowledging that. Manly thing to do here in TML haha.

Finally, until taxpayers say enough is enough and the well has run dry, sports franchises will take that bucket and fill it to the brim with every taxpayer penny available. That, or until taxpayers and voters put folks in office who will say exactly that to these franchises. Billionaire franchises, bickering over $200,000 and who's going to pay ... that's a first-world problem if there ever was an example.

Again, great read today. Thank you!

How are the Bengals ignoring their lease in the naming rights deal? They are taking advantage of the lease to pocket money, but certainly not ignoring it. Please get your facts straight before subbing for Doc

I guess you missed the discussion the other day. Per the lease, the Bengals are supposed to receive the first $60 million from the sale of naming rights, then split the difference 70/30 with the County. The Bengals are trying to get out of that deal by claiming that there are some offsets which bring the value down below $60 million. They also point to other teams keeping 100% of the naming rights money which is a red herring to throw in when the law is not on their side. My facts are correct. Thanks for reading.

Thank you for the shout-out, Jay! As usual, you proved worthy of the Hemingway challenge. If I thought I could assemble, maintain and cogently express more than a paragraph or two of wisdom, I's apply for the assignment myself one day. Who knows? Maybe after I retire :).

Those concert prices are staggering. My first rock concert was Yes, at the colosseum in 1975. It cost all of $6!

Nice work! I'm with ya on T-Swift. I blame Alexa. I asked for music and she provided "something I might like" which included a steady dose of T-Swift. I can't lie...i like a good amount of it hahaha.

Matt Ruhle has FU money. As did/does Carson Palmer. Most of us dream of that. Take the money and retire. If you must, take a job after the Panthers’ contract term expires.

I’d rather gouge my eyes out with a spoon than watch FIFA World Cup soccer. I guess the same can be said about attending a T Swift concert

I thought the same until a friend suggested I watch a WC match in 2006. After that first match, I took three weeks of vacation and watched it all. I’ve done the same for subsequent WC’s. The knockout rounds are always incredible. Try the WC, Harry. Just one match. The US plays this Monday at 2pm. They are a very young team that needs a few breaks to get out of their group but, in 4 years, they have a puncher’s shot at winning it all.

I’ve tried JP…I just can’t. Tried it in 2010 and 2014. My brother drug me kicking and screaming to an FC match. I just don’t get it. But, if someone put a gun to my head and said watch soccer or basketball I’d choose the soccer.

I admittedly don't know much about crypto, FTX, NFTs, etc. However, with all the rumblings, rumors, and reports floating around the interwebs over the last week or 2, I can't help but think an intriguing doc/movie has got to be in the making, a la The Big Short. I mean, an (apparently) outrageously generous, socially awkward, wild-haired 20-something billionaire living in the Bahamas in some sort of multi-polyamorous arrangement? His wealth is based on what exactly?? Billions funneled to political campaigns? Ukraine? Man, if any of this stuff is remotely true, it is wild.

Actually, Michael Lewis (The Blind Side and Big Short author) has been following SBF around for six months. Has not started writing yet. Will be curious to see if he had any premonitions about the disaster or if he had intended to write a hagiography.

Thanks for reading.

I’ve read The Big Short and some other musings from ML and he should hammer this guy. It will be interesting to see if he can pull that off since he’s an ingrained Democrat and previous targets were white dudes who voted Republican. We will see if he has the balls to go against cancel culture.

Comprehensive list of observations, grievances and opinions today. Thoroughly enjoyed the lecture. I would be massively in favor of an in-person TML one day, with beverages of course, so we can all lament together. 👍
