The Enquirer’s Jason Williams made a good case for Tom Herman. I don’t know “why not him?”

What will The Men do with Perine when Mixon returns? I hope they expand Perine to more than a 3rd down back. it seems mixing them in more often would keep the def off guard a bit. I thought our def looked great and though we didnt get many sacks DJ blocked 2(or was it 3) which is as good as a sack in my book. Hilton snuck around a couple times and stopped Henry in his tracks. Pretty awesome! Keep it rolling guys - one game at a time!

Brian, good question. I say let the better man continue until he proves otherwise, yeah?

The Bengals really seem to be cooking right now. Very tough game this weekend against an excellent KC team that is surely looking for revenge. The thing about Burrow is that I think The Men can beat anyone with #9 on the field. Anyone. I've never had as much confidence in the Bengals as I do right now.

If you're looking for some good new tunes, Doc, I strongly recommend Neal Francis. Up and coming artist based out of Chicago. A bit of a 70's blues/funk/r&b throwback. To borrow a phrase, ckitout.

Thank you for both the crazed dog and Belushi cafeteria references. Classics both.

As an OSU grad and fan, I have two questions for the Buckeye maniacs calling for Ryan Day's scalp: 1. With whom would you like to replace him? 2. How much of his $56M buyout are you personally willing (and able) to pony up let him walk away?

Until you provide a viable candidate and - in the land of almighty dollar - at least half the money, pipe down. You're clickbait noise, a child throwing a tantrum. Any idiot can scream and yell; not many have the juice to make a real change. (And the adults in the room realize there's not really a need for one.) Johnny Twitter Thumbs with a buckeye leaf for your profile pic, pretty sure your juice is in a box with a plastic straw attached to the side.

Is it fun to lose to TTUN? Of course not. But lest we forget, even St. Woody LOST the 10-Year War (5-4-1). Yes, he got fired at the end of it, but only because but he clocked a Climpson player in the Gator Bowl, not for his record. It's a game, people. Entertainment. All this hue and cry is exhausting.

Fickell is gone, get over it. The rewards of raising the bar for a program. It’s a business all about who can buy the biggest steak because the house , car and membership are all free. I don’t usually disagree with you , but XU will be better in March this year because of Miller. He has already changed the attitude of Freemantle. Try something from Billy Stewart, you might like it.

I like Urban for the job. And no Tuberville comparisons. either, from the peanut gallery.... 2 completely different fish. Has roots here, can/has won the biggest games, knows how to recruit, and, like Sean Miller, needs a combo prodigal-son/redemption moment in his career. He would fit right in and hit the ground running. Obviously the guy knows how to coach. What better place fora resurrection than at your alma mater? I don't care if he leaves in 3 years, just get things running in the Big 12. If he wants to head to greener pastures then, so be it.

Tubby was 100% skum bag the whole time here. Just thinking about him makes me need a shower.

The whole general Cincinnati thing-the Clifton area, the rise in crime, the infighting downtown, the way this town has turned hard and mean the last decade- is my guess why Fick might have left, along with the thought that he will know the Big 10 inside out when OSU tires of Day and comes calling again. The Brannen firing bugged him, too. Madison is a very mellow college town. It will be a much easier, more breathable lifestyle there. He wont have as many inroads with the local kids, but he can build those. He should do well. and I wish him thus. Thanks, Fick, for some really great seasons. You reminded us that character is all about how you live your life.

"The whole Cincinnati thing"? Cincinnati's crime rate (still below national average) had nothing to do with his decision, neither did Brannen's adventure.

NIL negated Urban’s recruiting “advantage”. He also lost what little credibility he had left when he was caught on tape squeezing the Charmin of a charming single women.

I used the word "redemption" for a reason. Besides, I thought that incident was blown out of proportion. Just another overdone "gotcha" moment in the uberhypocritical world run by social media tattle-tales with a never ending thirst to damage someone.

Gotcha moment? Have you seen the videos? Caught with a hand in Cookie’s jar is more like it. No one wants that behavior linked to their school and certainly not behavior that will live in perpetuity on YouTube.

Yeah, I guess he's the first married man who's ever had a pretty lady rush up to him in a bar when he was drinking and instinctively held her tight. What was I thinking? Yer right, he's pure evil, and should be treated like Pete Rose. Made an example of, I tell ya. Let's hand him upside down from a bridge. Fie on thee, Urban! You've ruined everything you've ever been associated with.

See how that kind of thinking works.

He’s not an example. He’s exhibit A in at least two videos of the same sexual act in a public place. Do you think for a second that female students at UC would be ok with Uncle Urban’s bar room romper room at their school?

The Jags fired him for breach of contract for that video AND kicking a player.

Sounds like a great fit for a guard at a women’s maximum security prison but not a college football coach.

You disagree. I get it. Most deserve a second chance. Fox gave it to him. College football shouldn’t.

We have different moral barometers. As long as you are as puritanical in your own life as you demand Urban's to be, I'm fine. It's a slippery slope anointing ourselves the judge and jury of others. Seems to me the lady in the video came on to Urban. Where's your outrage at her? For all you know, she could be the mother of the supposed puritanical female coeds you imagine at UC. I see the whole thing as Gotcha Culture at its finest. With 2/3s of America playing amateur paparazzis with their phones, privacy's gone out the window. I only watch videos once. Why? Because the event only happened once. I judge it on one viewing. Watching it again and again tends to overinflate and distort the true feel of the incident. It's obsessive compulsive.

Doesn't need to, yes, but probably will. These guys want to coach til they die. Why not now? I like him over a young hire who ends up being the football equivalent of UC's Miller, who is years from understanding how to win here.

Afraid to say anything here...it was all perfect...loved William's exuberance for his touchdown. Felt the big ship turn before halftime, and had no doubts after the end of the third quarter. I just leave it to Joe. Afraid to write anything else, lest I jinx them. I take a lot of responsibility for my thoughts on paper.

I agree with you Doc without a doubt a younger HC would be nice. Jason Candle at Toledo would be a great candidate. 52-32 at Toledo. Who knows if he'd be another Tommy Tuberville but he knows what he is doing is Bill Obrien the Alabama OC. Dan Pitcher on the Bengals staff is very well thought of as well.

Are there Brian Kelly fans? Yes, and I think I must be the president of his small-ish fan club. I think he was a more innovative coach than Fickell although perhaps slightly behind him as a program builder (BK inherited a program in decent shape from Dantonio while Fickell had to clean up the Tuberville rubble so we are not comparing apples and apples).

I am looking forward to the next 13 years of UC fans irrationally bashing Fickell for "leaving before the (meaningless) bowl game" which is what they have done with BK. They won't do that? If not, they owe BK an apology or they are hypocrites.

Expand full comment

Agree with your first paragraph. The second one is more the apples to oranges thing.

BK left with UC ranked #3, headed to huge bowl game against Tebow and Gators, program interest at all time high, recruits knocking down the door, and him being the toast of the town. He snuck out the side door without even saying goodbye. He sold himself constantly as tirelessly committed to UC, then stomped all over his commitment. Classless and clueless.

UC is going to much smaller bowl, not ranked in Top 25, and Fick addressed his players personally. He left out the front door, with the program in best shape ever. He stayed after his best season, last year, when suitors were everywhere. Very different exit.

Pogo, neither bowl is for the National Championship so they are both meaningless. I am not sure anyone should begrudge BK for leaving for ND as imperfect as the timing was. They also should not continue to denigrate him 13 years after the fact. UC was fortunate to have him.

If you believed a college coach who said he was staying, shame on you. :)

Well, for one thing, I say New Years Day bowl games are a huge deal and not meaningless at all. Great recruiting tools. Kelly did wonders at UC, that is true. But the sour taste generated by the WAY he departed is his responsibility, and you hafta know by now Notre Dame was NOT his dream job, so that excuse has gone kablooohey. He's the Dance-Away Lover who sooner or later leaves everyone who loves him for the next fantasy.

Beating Mahomes would really be something. It'll be tough to do.

Ryan Day's play-calling was atrocious. We talk about Taylor needing to give up play-calling, but Ryan Day needs to more so.

If Kerry Coombs was a decade younger, I'd give him the job. That being said, the UC job is way more attractive now than when Luke Fickel took it, especially now that they are entering the Big 12. I wonder how much of a factor Texas and Oklahoma leaving for the SEC took some of the shine off the UC job for Luke? The sexiness of the Big 12 took a hit. Again, I think he could have had that OSU job in a few years. But, I guess he's not getting any younger, either.

Re: #7. If, at the end of the season, we call all collectively agree that the OL is as good as it appears to be at this point, I suggest we have proof that buying an OL is much more effective than hoping to choose top draft picks to become NFL Pro Bowlers. Agree? If not, what other conclusion is as self-evident as this one?

Fickell is such a special coach that he will elevate Wisconsin into a top-end Big 10 team. Incredible to do what he did at UC. And yeah it's not a top end job at the moment but the resources are there to win and make the 12 team playoff. He is a great fit there.

And with Ohio State, how damaging will that loss be for Ryan Day? That game was a perfect opportunity to avenge last season's whooping by Michigan. At home, nice weather, possibly the top pick in the NFL draft at QB with a slew of talent at WR. So now Day heads into next season with some pressure. Has to replace his star QB and has road games at Notre Dame and Michigan. Easy to see him on the hot seat this time next season and eventually that job becoming open in the next two or three years. And who would be Ohio State's first call? Luke Fickell could end up with his dream gig eventually.

YES! I see the same scenario likely unfolding.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving PDoc!

Fickell has to be thinking the B10 can get 3 teams in the playoff some years, and if his schedule breaks right they can sneak in. Miss OSU and Michigan some years, split with Penn State and SC and maybe? Let's be honest, there are only maybe 8-10 top tier jobs and after that it doesn't matter what league you're in, you are a 2nd fiddle program.

Live in Nashville and opted for the couch yesterday for the game. Totally agree on that throw to Higgins. He made several great throws late. They needed that W and will need to bring that same level vs the upcoming schedule.

As for the Buckeyes, Day is turning into Cooper 2.0. How you could stand there after getting boat raced in the 2nd half at home while making zero adjustments and say you are a dangerous playoff team is laughable.
