Great pic Doc. Sorry to hear the whole gang couldn’t make it this year. Just got back from a family vacation to Anna Maria myself. It’s the first year my oldest daughter wasn’t too “cool” to go on vaca with the fam in many years. Teens, they do that, as I’m sure you know. Thankfully they almost always come around after more of life’s seasonings. Now in my early 50s I’m convinced that we have been getting it all wrong on the work/life balancing act. Taking two weeks off at a time, more importantly being able to afford it, should be a gift everyone can open. Life is fleeting, so are the moments we are all here to experience. Being a keyboard monkey or performing whatever other task those of us engage in to make ends meet are not to be included on the voyage. Life is to be spent with those we love in a nothing else matters desperation. You know, because nothing else does. Well, not in comparison anyway. Here’s hoping JTWs next endeavor is crawling with those you’d want in the family album. Cheers my good man!

Enjoy the vacation. Hoping the Reds won't trade India, McLain, Run-DLC or Steer for mediocre starting pitching. Bolster the bullpen and wait for Lodolo and Green. Will Antone make it back? Not much of a Van fan, but the song of the day is a very good one. Thanks.

Enjoy vacation. Enjoy your take on things.

I always appreciate Doc's writing that reminds me to enjoy the simple things in life. After a long day, enjoying a thunderstorm in a screened in porch is about as satisfying as sitting on a beach.

Reds don’t need starting pitching... according to the numbers. Bullpen help, yes... but giving away India is a mistake. Team Leader.

Headed out of town myself tomorrow, to HHI - the land of she crap soup. Last time I was there by beloved Wahoos won the Natty in basketball and I had to keep my whoops quiet so as not to wake the grandkids. Grandkids - that's what you need, Doc! They're awesome.

Time is perhaps our most valuable asset and probably our most often taken for granted. Thanks for the beautiful reminder to cherish it on a daily basis. Have a great trip, Doc.

Great article, as always. Maybe it's the age, but these are exactly the things my husband and I have been discussing and reflecting on a lot lately. So many of the little things are now the important things. It's a shame that we realize this until we're older.. but at least it makes you not take so much for granted.

Enjoy vacation., the family time and making new memories

Damn, Doc, I was just about to write you a glowing compliment on that fabulous blue Hawaiian shirt in the pic when I scrolled down to beneath and read "...2 bad shirts ago". So it aint so, Joe. Say it aint so.

I've concluded this is NOT the Reds year in the last few days. The performance against the Brewers, the cooling off of the rookies as the league figures them out, the drop off in all the emotional highs, De La Cruz's big hole in his swing, the piling up of innings on Abbott,....... well, let's just say it's the return to the mean that had to happen. I say play it out as is, pray Lodolo and Greene come back and continue to get experience and stay healthy, hope En-Strand isn't as bad as he looks so far, and continue to grow towards next year. Bell will never bench Votto, who as expected is a huge black hole in the lineup, because Bell is a horrible manager who values the buddy-buddy thing over results, and who once again proved his PollyAnna style of managing creates teams that choke in the limelight. It's happened every single time he's been in a big series. His country club style of leadership will never get this or any team over the hump.

So let it play out, Nick Krall. Make a great deal or none at all. Continue to live by the 5-years-and-gone rule. Sell high. Find more promising prospects. Some dead weight comes off the financial books next year, so make it count in the off season. This team will still have plenty of young speedy talent next year, but they'll also have experience at taking some lumps. That could translate into something very special. This year is just the prequel.

So agree about the importance and the passing of time...getting older and handling the HowManyMores! That must be why I spent $1,000 for 4 tickets to the University of Tennessee football game against South Carolina in September! Remembering times past and thinking about how many times to come.

Have a great vacation ! I just got back from my 63rd year at Bethany Beach, Delaware. Always relatives, crabcakes, boardwalk fries, and an ocean ! I've simmered down on the Red's need for pitching. They were , supposedly, building for next year and beyond. Maybe they should stick to that and see which of the young uns become true " Back of the baseball card " achievers. JMO...

Looking forward to Reds again, now that we have dismissed the Brews...or that they dismissed us for the most part. Hope lives again.

Seeing Joe go down...sad and a little terrifying, actually. Strains come and go...and not very quickly do they go. I was hoping it was just a cramp. Drat!

I played golf at Ponte Vedra. Remembering that the greens hold like a glass mirror that holds no gravity. Touch ball lightly, or even let the wind do the putting and watch it dance the hula before it settles, generally not in the hole. Big $$ for such frustration. At least the beach is there to comfort you. Have a great one!

Ponte Vedra is lovely, but I’ve only been there in February. Have a great time!

Bowden would trade India in a heartbeat.
