Thank you...me, too. Welcome to America. Let's keep it that way.

Cat's in The Cradle always gets to me. "Don't worry son...we'll get together soon..." My son with the silver spoon...never got together well with his dad and still struggles to this day. Dad's are there for a reason, and he and I both missed the reasons with our dads who were never there long enough....

Doc, so a picture paints a thousand words but none of them grab you like a few lyrics in a song?

All of the interior walls in my house are white because all of the walls have mid 20th century abstract paintings on them and they look best against a white background. Many of the corners in my house have modern abstract sculpture from 1 foot high pieces to as much as 8 feet high. As I type this and look around, I see what I have, what I found cheap, what I overpaid for, and all of it brings a smile to my face. I don’t keep anything if I’m not stopped in my tracks and frequently looking at it. But…I’ll be damned…you are RIGHT. None of it elicits emotions like a great song. I’ve never shed a tear for art in my house or in a museum. I can name 5 or 6 songs that I love but can’t listen to because they remind me of people in my life that have passed away. Unless I find a friend or relative that is 8 feet tall, made of chrome, stands silent in a corner, and makes me cry, I don’t guess any art will.

Thank you for making me think today.

From EmpowerU website

What an opportunity to meet Paul Daugherty, recently retired Enquirer sports columnist. Paul will be speaking from 7:10-7:30 PM. Early on, Paul Daugherty’s wife Kerry and him adopted three mantras intended to guide us along the uncertain path of raising a child with a disability. Little did they know that the three reminders would serve us well in all aspects of their lives. (Paul and his family are shown below).

Tried to get photo in. The link to page

Paul. I hope you can share video of your talk!

Well said. And, I'll bet equally, if not better said this evening at EmpowerU talk. Good luck. Inspire them as you have so many over the years. Yes you have.

Great books will take you on a journey, and have you visualizing the story as you read it ...

Great movies will bring you in as well, and immerse you in the story they are detailing on screen ...

Great music, however, will mark the special moments in the story and movie of your life, and transport you back to those moments whenever, and wherever, upon hearing that significant tune. There is nothing as magical, or as powerful, as a great song.

Even if it's not a "great" song, it can still have a great impact. I heard one yesterday while out shopping, "Shut Up and Dance" by the group Walk the Moon.

While the group is not necessarily my cup of tea, the song transported me back to 2014, a father-daughter dance at Fairfield Middle School I attended with my two daughters, and dancing away with them to that song.

It brought a smile to my face recalling that wonderful memory from the movie of my life -- one I'll never forget, and always cherish.

I gotta say that some movies get me choked up as well, but music is the min offender. Great tune.

I enjoy your non sports columns particularly the ones about your daughter. I’m dating a lady with a 22 yr old daughter who has Down syndrome .

I'm one who prefers your life columns over your sports columns. I'm writing this as I sit in my car waiting on an appointment. "Alexa, play The Cape by Guy Clark"...

Great stuff today! The virtuous side of the human spirit is a wonderful thing. Faith, hope, love, dreams, generosity, kindness, perseverance and selflessness are qualities that will always inspire others and lead them to strive to be their better selves. Thank you for your insightfulness!

I first heard this song as your song of the day. Now, it's one of my favorites. My daughter is going through cancer hell. She has the most positive spirit of anyone I've ever met ! I listen to that song a couple of times a week. I can't quite bring myself to introduce it to her yet. I will eventually and soon ! Meanwhile, it comforts the heck out of me because it describes my beautiful daughter.

I’m guessing I heard Guy sing The Cape live 13 or 14 times. Some in Austin at the Texas Chili Parlor, a few times in Louisville, a few times in Nashville, and the rest here in Cincinnati.

I say this because even seasoned fans that love that song will shed tears amongst strangers when he plays it. It’s an incredible song that he smiled when he played knowing that it was going to touch a lot of hearts.

BTW, his Dublin Blues that mentions the Texas Chili Parlor is an outstanding song about love.

Oh, and if you go there, two Mad Dog Margaritas is enough that you can walk back safely to your hotel, Three and you’ll forget the name of your hotel. Four and you’ll forget how to walk.

The Cape is wonderful and I totally get your feelings about music. My favorite song along those lines is Superman (It's Not Easy) by Five for Fighting

I can't stand to fly

I'm not that naive

I'm just out to find

The better part of me

I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane

I'm more than some pretty face beside a train

And it's not easy to be me

I wish that I could cry

Fall upon my knees

Find a way to lie

'Bout a home I'll never see

It may sound absurd, but don't be naive

Even heroes have the right to bleed

I may be disturbed, but won't you concede

Even heroes have the right to dream?

And it's not easy to be me

Up, up, and away, away from me

Well, it's all right

You can all sleep sound tonight

I'm not crazy

Or anything

I can't stand to fly

I'm not that naive

Men weren't meant to ride

With clouds between their knees

I'm only a man in a silly red sheet

Digging for kryptonite on this one way street

Only a man in a funny red sheet

Looking for special things inside of me

Inside of me

Inside of me

Yeah, inside of me

Inside of me

I'm only a man in a funny red sheet

I'm only a man looking for a dream

I'm only a man in a funny red sheet

And it's not easy, ooh, ooh, ooh

It's not easy to be me

Very beautiful, and a strong man is one who admits to crying. It shows you are still human. Only a cyborg or psychopath doesn't.
