The best part of yesterday's beers was the sun, Doc. Blue skies, puffy clouds, and SUN! In JANUARY! Fire pit, Adirondack chairs, and cigars tied for second. The beer needs no rating, because the delicious craft beers are a given, and a delicacy sent from heaven. How lucky we are to live in the era of craft breweries.
Poor Brett Maher. The frikkin' shanks. In the playoffs!! Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch! No cuss words exist to describe this curse properly. I'm guessing he'll have nightmares all week, wake up next gameday feeling about as chipper as a guy headed to the electric chair. He's definitely not doing well psychically. If he misses his first one next week, all bets are off. Image if the game comes down to a missed PATs, and Dallas loses by a point. I'd love to have a live mike on Jerry Jones if that happens. I could learn a bunch of really interesting new words, and write a new book: "How to curse in 5 languages at once."
I've always liked "Hooked on a Feeling." Great falling in love song. BJ Thomas was a crossover between the crooner era and the emergence of hard rock. He filled that space very well.
I once walked 7 straight guys in a church softball game. Seriously! It got in my head and I couldn't put a ball across to save my life. I thought I was going to kiss the 8th batter when he grounded out...
Great (and non-shanked) humor today! Steve Buscemi had me hooked the 1st time I watched "Fargo". I'm not certain anyone could inhabit a Cohen Brothers movie character better than him--and that is a huge statement--because they are extremely gifted at picking their actors. Has anyone watched "The Death of Stalin"? A killer of a dark comedy. Buscemi plays Nikita Khrushchev of all people.
In all fairness to BJ Thomas, I don't know a singer that performed a more soulful cover of this incredible Hank Williams' classic. When Elvis 1st heard it, he said it was the saddest song he had ever heard in his life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQqPCvoIWTM
Line of the Line: "It was unnerving for me to watch, and I dislike the Cowboys from A to Zeke."
You must have been hitting those wedges off the hosel.
An old baseball coach of mine spent a decade in the bigs. He talked to us about performance anxiety and his stretch when he couldn't see pitches coming in. At first, us teens assumed he was kidding, but he kept going on about it, emphasizing he literally did not see a baseball approaching when he was in the box. What a dreadful thing! I think about that from time to time.
I never really bought into the yips concept, but I suspect it's real. My assumption was that you start hitting awful shots as you start remembering how hard the game of golf can be.
Even people with 20/20 vision have issues spotting a 90+ MPH major league pitch coming at them from every screwball angle possible. That's what made Bronson Arroyo such an intriguing guy. He baffled them in slow motion, so to speak.
Boardwalk Empire is still my favorite miniseries. The character development and acting are outstanding. In addition to Knuckie, my favorite characters were Chalky and Gip Rosetti.
I agree with you about the classified documents. However, the content of those documents is much more important than the number of documents. I doubt that we will ever know, but the Hunter Biden connections are concerning so I hope none were related his international relationships.
Politics seem to attract good people initially, but most have to compromise their principals in order to receive funding to stay in office. I hated Trump, but agreed with many of his policies. Trump was actually more moderate on social issues than many Republican leaders. He just couldn't control his ego and went off the deep end after his Covid episodes. I hate Biden and disagree with most of his policies.
Agree with the Stick to Sports take. However, you are assuming that reporters are actually, you know, news reporters rather than simply propagandists for the Ds.
I had never heard that Langer was yippy for so long. It might explain what happened on that six-footer he missed to close out the “War by the Shore” Ryder Cup at Kiawah back in the day. I’ll bet he still sees that putt in his dreams.
If you like the Prohibition era for fiction, I recommend Dennis Lehane’s Coughlin trilogy series. Boston, Cuba, and Tampa with a gangster plot that weaves in the Tulsa riot, Babe Ruth, and the Palmer Raids as the foundation for what goes on outside the lines in our country. History and fiction in the hands of a great novelist is the easy was to find out why the world is the way it is.
Finally, re: Classified Documents. Hats off to the last two presidents of the United States for indisputably proving the absolute relevance of rhetorical “Whataboutism”! I will try not to bring it up in every TML debate, but I have to say the temptation will always be there…
Enjoy S1 and S2 of Boardwalk. Lower your expectations thereafter.
I used to be a recreational diver. Fortunate enough to experience different situations, conditions. Got an introduction with a group that explored the denotes in Yucatán. Tight confines, lots of opportunity for things to go south in a hurry. Never really thought too much about it.
Then one day I found myself in a wetsuit, without the proper weight on my belt to counteract the extra buoyancy. Thirty feet down, I was struggling to keep up w my group. Breathing hard, tired, out of sorts, I got down to the bottom. THAT was when the overwhelming desire to NOT be under 65 feet water TOOK CONTROL of my brain.
Never had any concept of claustrophobia before that moment. But I do now. Don’t envy that dude’s next kick.
Cable news is as bad as WLW (sports shows excluded). You can’t believe half of what they put out. More propaganda than news. The argument of dirty politician A didn’t do anything worse than Dirty politician B is comical. They’re only upset when the other party does it. We demand more accountability from our children than we do our elected officials.
Enjoyable delivery today Paul
Wow! Did not see that song coming!

BJ Thomas Doc? I think you have a case of the Tune of the Day Yips!
God forbid. Just give BJ his props.

Mr Pink was from Reservoir Dogs, Tarentinos first movie
I will have to check it out. I don’t think I ever saw it. Pulp Fiction made an impression though.
The first time I noticed Buscemi (and I can't imagine not noticing him!) was in a movie called Trees Lounge. As TML says, Checkitout.
We love Will Trent series. Vulnerable character that catches the bad guys. Interesting
You mention Nuke and Crash, but...you don't mention Jake Taylor reprogramming Rube Baker's wiring? Jobu would not be happy.

I hear you. His point was he obviously had the ability to track big league pitching for years, then completely lost it.
I’m not disagreeing with you at all. I believe your story. Just doing a little editorialization extraneously.

Summer of 68'. My best as a teenager. Keep them coming!

Kudos to Pogo for manning up on the good cigars.
