How about Jesse Bates not giving up on a sure touchdown, running halfway across the field and knocking Huntley out at the 2 yard line. Hubbard and Wilson will get the glory, but Bates' effort should at least be noted.
I am getting a little scared with the injuries on the line, but I feel like Joe did more with less last year? Your article keeps my hope alive for this Sunday. I needed it!
You are a good writer Doc. (Yea, you knew that already). The Men keep finding ways to win. Growing up in Cincy the Bengals always found ways to lose. Seems like Zac is the big difference here and has built a winning mindset. Impressive. What’s frustrating is knowing that our QB would go nuts and smoke teams with his weapons if he could just get a couple extra seconds. Just a couple! Can they not bring in tight ends into the backfield with Perine and buy Joe just a couple secs? Guess it isn’t that easy, huh?
Anyway, second best to a Bengals win is reading TML the next day! Blessings all!!
As the years go on, maybe the Hubbard play will be looked at as Cincinnati's version of the 'Immaculate Reception. '
One difference is it didn't happen in the final seconds, unlike the Raiders 50 years ago, Baltimore still had a chance, but it still lifted a fan base and turned a potential loss, into a win.
I'm really glad that Hubbard does 110 sprints when he trains. The last Bengal DL I remember running like that was Gary Burly leading the way for a Cobb interception. Gary was pretty fast before he hurt his knee, and extremely smart. I was surprised that Andrews was the only raven who gave chase. The fullback ran a few yards after Hubbard but then gave up. I hope the Bengals would show more hustle in a similar situation.
I'm very sorry to hear about your friend, Frank. I am close to his age and followed a similar education path, except I went to St. X instead of Bacon. My condolences to his family and friends.
Here’s a pie in the sky dream scenario: Jacksonville beats KC, Bengals survive Buffalo, and the AFC Championship game travel plans take a detour to Cincinnati.
Excellent summary, Doc. Completely agree. The Raven defense had a few stinkers early this year, but have been solid gold as the season wore on. Peters and Humphrey are in their own class, IMO, but all the trash talk and assorted acrobatics get a little annoying over a complete game. It will be interesting to see if the Bills can stop the downfield talent that the Bengals have when things go their way.
Sorry for your loss as well, Doc. As an OG, I get your point about time. Trying to smell a lot of roses these days...
Nice column, sir. Keep them coming. The Bengals have a shot, don't they? They've gotten breaks and they've made breaks. The O-line is problematic but better than last year, even with the injuries, when they rode it to 56. I hope the string doesn't run out next week, but even if it does it's clear these Bengals are legit and moreso than ever before. They will have giant contracts coming up soon. Let's see if they can wangle some re-signs and keep this team together for awhile.
I put ketchup on eggs. But, then, I put ketchup on everything. Without it and other tomato-based condiments, there would be now happiness. That's not opinion. That's Science.
I kept thinking during the Hubbard run "don't trip, don't get tackled" because if he got stopped before the end zone, considering how the offense played, I wasn't sure if they'd get anything more than three (if that?).
Beautiful run from a local kid. Serious questions and concerns with the battered o-line going to Buffalo.
I knew Frank and he was a good guy! R.I.P. Frank. If I’d have known you were in Wiedemann’s I would’ve bought you a beer. Have a good day and keep writing, you’re good and one of my favorites!

Exhausting and wonderful! Could the Curse be Broken? I'm almost in fear of thinking so...You know what I mean?

Agreed. But I dont see it happening. Maybe next year. If I were a betting man, I'd be all in on the Giants. NFC is weak.

Frank sounded like a mensch. RIP.
Truly memorable win. Lou Anarumo is worth HC money.

I had to stop reading after two paragraphs to comment immediately - great Woodstock blast Doc!!!
And since you teased mindless pop, hoping when I clicked the link that it would be When Will I See you Again.
