Doc, I highly recommend white water rafting in West Virginia. Natural beauty and exhilarating simultaneously. And did I say pure unadulterated fun. Choose your difficulty level, it's all there.

Doc- longtime reader and glad to see you TMLing again! Have you considered west Baden/French lick Indiana? Only about 2 hours sw from you. Rolling hills, lots of hiking, 2 good golf courses. West Baden is the nicer of the 2 hotels, though they’re only about a mile apart. Check it out!

We like the West Baden Hotel in French Lick, Indiana. Also, Columbus, Indiana is a cute walk around town.

Enjoyed the Rodney lines.

Nemacolin Resort in PA. Very nice place. Could play golf if you’d like. Spa. Frank Lloyd Wright houses to tour nearby. Wineries. I’m sure there is hiking. It’s in the mountains. Five hours away.

Trip idea is the Canaan Valley in WV. It's the highest elevation valley east of the Mississippi, the darkest place east of the Mississippi south of Maine (great stars), is close to awesome sights like Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks, Smoke Hole Canyon/Caverns, and WV's tallest mountain (which you can drive up) Spruce Knob. Plus, it has the two small towns of Davis and Thomas, which are two of the best towns in WV. The Purple Fiddle in Thomas is one of the best small, mountain music venues around. It's almost exactly 6 hours from Cincy.

First, thanks for the fun column, huge Rodney fan. I LOL.

Conversely, I thought Jim Nance was going to cry yesterday. He must have planned out 30 minutes of flower-speak about how the Bills recovered from the Damon Hamlin tragedy to win the game & face the Chiefs. Truth was, Nantz couldn't bring himself to admit the Bengals were a much better team. He wanted to talk about how their wins were 'lucky flukes'. He wasn't prepared for what happened, which speaks to his weakness' at his job. (His main problem is he's a phony) Romo, after choking on his gum, finally said something smart - the Bengals are the best team in the AFC. He's right about that.

St. Joe, Michigan. Stay at the Boulevard. 3 days max, go in late spring / early summer. You'll see why I like it. 4-ish hours by car. Plenty of walking around town, delish ice cream, burgers, etc. then head to the dunes for a little exercise & a nice view of the Michigan Ocean (lake my ass). You can rent a boat, tool up the coast to South Haven, Saugatuck, & Spring Lake harbors. Go for a swim & then hit Silver Beach Pizza for a perfect day. Water is very refreshing, but you're a Jersey Shore swimmer, no worries. Best part? No sharks, crabs or coral.

WHO. DEY. These guys are good & the best coaches in the NFL. Let's enjoy it while it lasts. The Brass Ring becons for the Men. It is time. WHO F'ING DEY!

Since 1968 the Bengals have been consistently disappointing and middle-of-the-pack at best with a couple of exceptions. Joe Burrow has single handily lifted this team to heights this franchise has never seen…a consistent Super Bowl contender. They are also one Joe Burrow injury from being run off the mill again. I wish I could enjoy it more but the average fan is ruining it for me. Stop begging for “respect” and for every national announcer to gush over this team. Stop being so paranoid that the league is fixed and the referees are carrying out the fix. It’s a bad look that wreaks of rookie fandom. The best way to get respect? Be great like Joe. Win despite the circumstances. When you are good you tell others. When you are great, others tell them for you. Be like Joe.

Some great travel suggestions, including some favorites (love hiking Clifty Falls and Hocking Hills, for example.) But I'll put in a pitch for a bit longer trip to the town where I live, Hermann, MO. It is 6.5 highway hours, longer the scenic way, so it will need to be a long weekend to accommodate the extra travel.

BUT: 6-7 wineries, three distilleries, a couple of breweries in a pretty little river town of 2500 people. Plenty of lodging, quaint shops, and a nice cigar room. Surrounding area is beautiful drives that lead to more of the above. 90 minutes from the arch, longer if you follow the (Missouri) river.

Football? Stunning level of play from the Bengals. Not sure if they stepped up from last week or if last week was just a tougher team. Who do you like for OC and DC for next year? I think these guys will be gone.

I'll add on to the Ohiopyle, PA trip. Make sure to stop by Falling Waters and take the in depth tour. We also love Damascus, VA.

Blue Ridge, GA is a must if you’ve never been. Only 5.5 hrs from Cincy. You can rent nice cabins in the mountains with never-ending views. The quaint downtown has lots of shops, restaurants. You have to hit Grumpy Old Men Brewing (there are 3-4 others) and if in the mood for wine, try Bear Claw Vineyards. Lots of good hiking opportunities…most outstanding waterfall I have ever seen is Amicalola Falls (easy short hike). Also take one day and drive to Helen, GA (short trip from Blue Ridge)…a very interesting Bavarian-style town.

Hey Paul,

So, my latest trip tip for under 6 hrs is to check out Ohiopyle, PA. If you have overnights planned, you could plan some biking on the Great Allegheny Passage trail. If you're not familiar, look that trail up...it's a true bucket list trip!

If you're riding the whole GAP trail from Pittsburgh to Cumberland MD, bike eastbound (easier addressing the Continental Divide from the west). If you wanted to do just a day bike trip, I'd suggest westbound from Frostburg, terminating at Ohiopyle...for the amazing scenery and a relatively easy ride.

As the destination, Ohiopyle State Park is centered around the Youghiogheny River gorge. It's massive, and stunning.

Try Michigan City Indiana. Indiana Dunes national park nearby and plenty of breweries around. Check out beachwalk resort for a good place to stay.
