Actually, not really. It was a sobering comment. However, if we want to be "one" in this Country comments like that should not have jumped off my keyboard. The last thing I want to do is acknowledge a mindframe I can't agree with. HaHa...pretty good comeback, Harry.
Was off the computer yesterday and it was great. I was in the GABP oven on Sunday, and it was not. I've been to at least 70+ Reds games in my life and that was the hottest and most disappointing of the bunch - save the play-in game verses the Mets in '99. But, I digress.
I disagree with bringing Diaz in during any non-save situation because it seems to mess with his head. Maybe it shouldn't but it does. Yesterday vs. the Mariners, however, was great. Wish we would have gone to that one, but that's the way it goes. I also don't know if I'll ever go back when the Cubs are in town. Their fan base travels too well...
Not at all writing the kids off yet. And despite the heat rash, sweat dripping literally from my fingertips and the "let's go Cubbies" chants, I was happy to get to see this particular Reds team in person one more time this year, even if EDLC had a golden sombrero before his fifth at-bat of the contest.
Now, onto Buffet. I remember, vaguely, being on the lawn at Riverbend for a Buffet concert in the early 90s (college days). I think everyone was at one point or another. I don't think I stayed the whole time. Someone was sick, or someone had to leave early...? It's all a brown (Cincy) haze now. But, I remember Parrotheads, volcanos and the like. Never made it to another one.
However, I like his schmaltzy songs and his better ones. We have a whole genre of music in which each new artist cuts his teeth on pick-ups, dead dogs, six-packs & broken hearts, so the fact that Jimmy built a brand out of Margaritaville is just fine by me.
And still, to this day, I have a daydream of running off to bar tend on the beach in Key West if my world comes crashing down. There will be Buffet tunes on the Musak all day long. RIP Jimmy!
I suffered through two Buffet concerts here in town. Sorry, two Buffet week long celebrations. Never understood it. Terrible live performer. Completely lived off drunk women being topless in the audience as his biggest moments on stage, preying on his audience being too drunk to care about his performance, because boobies. But he's a billionaire, and I'm not, which is all that matters. Kudos, Jimmy.
It's totally OK to not like the schmaltzy Buffett tunes. I very much see your point. But I never judge artists by their fluff-just their body of work. Plus, even the cheesy tunes have some great writing. Fins for example has some amazing stuff. The way the 1st and 3rd verses mimic each other, as are the human/fish comparisons. An Ohio woman who was leery of 'sharks' when she moved to Florida, now finds herself as a remora--instinctively latching on to the very sharks she was supposed to beware of. Just fantastic stuff. RIP.
Thought Deon was a bit over the top...as was Jemele Hill but that's standard practice. Would love to see Deon take the Buffs to the top; certainly no one has ever used his transfer recipe BUT maybe it's not such a statement because as Doc points out, others have been there before him.
Feel like I lost an old friend with Jimmy Buffet's passing....have posted my favorite lyric more than once in the last couple of days:
"Wrote a note said, "Be back in a minute"
Bought a boat and I sailed off in it
Don't think anybody's gonna miss me anyway
Mind on a permanent vacation
The ocean is my only medication
Wishing my condition ain't ever gonna go away"
-Knee Deep with Zac Brown Band
This sums up my head and feelings for Corp Life perfectly! RIP Jimmy Buffett
I loved Jimmy for his spirit and being able to share his true feelings in his music. And that he could become one with paradise.
I believe he did some not "Jimmy spirit" songs, probably because his agent told him to...remember, there are dudes out there he was probably trying to please to make some extra pin money.
Congratulations Kate on editing your original idiotic post and changing “MAGAs” to “dudes”. I’m guessing after you sobered up from your latest raging TDS rant you realized how stupid that was. You must’ve been “Wasting away again in MAGAritaville”🤣🤣🤣
I’m just a white kid who grew up in the suburbs of Cincy so far be from me to know what it’s like to walk in Deions shoes. However I did marry into a Mexican family so last I checked I’m not a racist.
Ok so with all that laid out- I don’t understand why he is playing the race card here. Weren’t Dorrell and Tucker also black men??? What am I missing? I’ve been to Boulder several times it’s beautiful, awesome and affluent so is he trying to go for the “tough from the streets” tactic? I don’t get it.
I’ll still root for him to succeed (except when playing ASU) although already am tiring of the Deion & Fam constant commercials
I am a Buffett hat...lets just say I don't like him that much. It's not his fault. I worked in a bar on High Street in Columbus that played Buffett 90% or the time if not 100, I would have taken a shotgun to the sound system if I thought they wouldn't arrest me. The owner of the bar fashioned himself as Jimmie Buffett so that's all we heard. Numb in Margaritaville.
Prime is truly unconventional. I admire him but... THE GAME IS PLAYED ON THE FIELD BY PLAYERS. Enough said.
Yeah, it IS the pitching! No doubt. If the Reds don’t make the playoffs, I’m quite sure the second guessing of the decision NOT to add pitching at the deadline will be DEAFENING. However, I’m not sure it will be warranted. They took a chance and, well, maybe it won’t work.
As for Coach Prime…simply put, being an OG, I’m just not a fan of the “portal.” When Prime took over at Colorado, he basically invited his existing players to leave. That is all well and good and he is trying to use the new rules to his advantage…but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I will say that his son is outstanding.
Jimmy Buffett…I saw him in Cincinnati a couple of times years ago and do admit that his show was an all around good time. Like you, “Margaritaville” is not my favorite but, God Bless Him, he did know how to sell his brand. I respect that. To this day, I think “Come Monday” is the best song he wrote. And, as someone else on here said, I’ll probably listen to his music more now, just like I do with Croce.
Amen on “Coach Prime”, Doc. He did everything he could to make us think it was him, and only him, out on that field, up against big, bad TCU. I get that he’s a great motivator and he might turn out to be a great coach. But we already have too many of them who think we come to stadium just to watch them coach.
Tone down the “me against the world” Deion, and let’s see what your team can do with you standing in the background and not always right up front.
I’ll probably listen to more Buffett now that he’s gone than I ever did before. Never bought his music, just listened to whatever popped up on the radio. My younger brother has read his books too.
Deion’s locker room is in Colorado. Strikes me as a problematic place. BlacKkKlansman happened there for real. Check out the movie. But, Coach Prime doesn’t share the limelight much. People will be watching.
Made our surgically precise run to NKY yesterday. Dropped off many jars of refrigerator dill pickles in Florence. Daughter celebrating her 14th birthday beginning the day before. “Sleepover” girls were leaving as we arrived.
Made our way to friend’s place in Ludlow after. Five of us shared a traditional spaghetti and meatballs dinner, mostly adult beverages, and good company. Had my first mule. Tasty.
Watched the barges go by carrying fireworks. Enjoyed the aerial display from her small deck. Cleared out immediately after finale. I75 past 71/75 split was mostly empty. Home by eleven.
It's okay, I took it that way. My tongue is in my check most of the time. Sadly, not many people get dry humor these days.
And somehow they’ve 3 of 4 and very much in playoff hunt.
We lost our shaker of salt :(
Nowhere in the song does 45 years slip away. It's "4 or 5 years slipped away". Big difference.

Pitching....absolutely! Still love the vibe of this team and, you picked the best Buffet song for your tribute. Thanks once more Doc!

Doc thanks for laboring on Labor Day.

You’re “marked safe” from now on, especially when STS rears its head again.
STS?🤔
Stick To Sports. You no longer need to declare you’re not a racist should you choose to opine.
