It takes a big man to admit he's wro...Not exactly right. I still think your initial take was spot on and you can gloat when they lose 95 games. They are fun to watch or listen to tho. I, like you don't get jazzed by effort. That's assumed. The reason that Tommy and the Cowboy complain about balls and strikes is because there are a few umpires who are horrible. It's not only when the Reds are batting either. John Sadak often will say "that is a very generous called strike." There are some umpires who at least are consistent calling a low or high strike every time. That's OK with me and the batters know who calls what. But.. There are a few that are all over the place and I think they should be called out by name.
I'm going to get on the wrong side of you but I'm with Kelly on Broooce. Over rated. I'll pass. All the rage when I was in college.
You framed it well Doc ... the Big 162 of MLB season is looong. Lots of ebbs and flows. Easy to get down when your team gets manhandled in a 3 game set against the hated Bronx Bombers at home (which could have ignited the fan base with 2-3 wins). However now a sweep over the lowly Cubs and the promise of some new star power on its way from Louisville, the eternal hope is flickering once again. May not last (re. The Pirates) but let’s enjoy the moment ... and hopefully many more to come this season and beyond!
I'm sure Ryan contributed his part in those 30 victories. Congrats to NKU on the progress. Yes, the Reds could use some power but the small ball is refreshing and fun to watch. If the starting pitching could reach its potential, they could be fun to watch (or listen to.) Love the rhythm, vocals and arrangement of Hungry Heart, despite the guy walking out on his kids.
First of all, the picture says it all. Until you add the words to elevate it even more. Two special men there.
My prediction for the Reds this year was 73 wins. More a hope, I guess, but I have been impressed with the young guys. The fact we're where we are, with 'the big three ' struggling, says a lot. What lies ahead is a mystery as always, but given the mediocrity of the division, a healthy Reds team can't be disregarded.
As a humongous Bruce fan, I long ago let my incredulity at those who didn't care for him go. His voice is a reason I've heard, and that's understandable. Same with Dylan and Neil Young. These days it's much more about his politics. A shame, because he's one of America's greatest songwriters. Loved the post today!
If you run out of Propane again, go to Lowe's. I ran out on Saturday and thought no one would have it available. Went right up the street to Lowe's and got lucky...and the place was PACKED. Guess we just need to plan ahead better, yeah?
I was a boy scout. The motto is be prepared. Those who wait till Memorial Day to get propane can be chastised for poor planning. I have two propane tanks. When one dies....................... Of course, long before it dies, I fill it up. I am not sure the backup tank has been used in 20 years. Sorry.
A pleasant surprise to see a holiday outing, Doc, especially one starring Mr. Magnificent and ending in Broooooce, with a mention of Wrigley in between. That's where I will next see Broooooce in 74 days, not that I'm counting or anything. Been casually checking setlists across the European leg and Hungry Heart hasn't appeared much - if at all.
Kudos to Ryan and NKU ‘s coach and you, Doc, for keeping us grounded on the difference between looking and seeing. 👍👍 As for the Reds, if the others following McClain to the MLB roster play anywhere near as well, the Reds will figure out who stays and plays and trade one or two others to get a closer or solid middle reliever. Pitching is the difference maker in the final analysis. I do agree the team has been playing better than expected and the division is so pathetic that they may actually be in the hunt for a playoff position (as hard as that is to believe). ⚾️
Hungry Heart’s lyrics don’t quite match the upbeat melody. And everyone sings along about a guy leaving his wife and kids and never going back . 😆 and a little music trivia- they sped up the tape on the studio version to make his voice sound a little higher
Excellent post today. I was watching NBA - Heat damn near lost their minds, and Fringe while checking Reds scores. Watched the end of a couple of games. Including yesterday.
SIL said on Friday that the Cubs were playing like the Cubs. He dropped off daughter and grandpug while he went to do funeral honors at Camp Nelson. Service for a woman this time. Army nurse. He has been in Navy reserves a long time now.
That picture truly is...worth a thousand words. Wow!
As for he Reds, yes, they lack a lot of, supposedly, what it takes to win in baseball but after 33 games, they seem to be showing an intangible one does not often see in professional sports...pure enthusiasm for the game. I've been a Reds fan since 1961 and I've never seen as many base hits turn into doubles or guys taking an extra base! And, frankly, it's been firing this OG up to watch it. I have to watch the games I can get because I'm in Pa. and 700WLW is good but not that good. I do watch the games on MLB but have figured out that I can watch but listen to Tommy and Cowboy at the same time and that is interesting especially when Cowboy is questioning every damn call!
Will they contend all season? No idea but I think I can say that, like when I was watching them and listening to them in 67, 68, and 69, when Johnny Bench was just beginning to blossom, the future does look bright.
Regardless of the finished product, this team has been fun to watch.
Reds a big surprise. More surprises in store? I certainly have a hungry heart!

It appears there are hundreds of folks that did not check their propane tanks BEFORE the holiday.

I had The Club at 71-91. That'd be a 9-game improvement with payroll slashed.
Happy with anything in the 70's. Or higher. (Wink, wink)

Seems when Red's players make a TV ad for Chevy, their year goes sour....

The Ryan/Dizzy commentary is classic TML at its best. Thank you!

He does admit to "taking a wrong turn" ... but yes, he "just kept goin' ..."
