Gym problems? Several years ago, at one of the finest workout facilities in the Cincinnati area, we had a guy who ONLY exercised in the locker room…NAKED. Leg lifts on the communal benches…NAKED. Laying on the floor stretching…NAKED. Jumping jacks…NAKED. Tai Chi in front of the large bank of mirrors above the sinks less than two feet from where everyone was shaving or brushing their teeth…and he was NAKED. Lots of us complained but the gym wouldn’t do anything about it because there was no rule against being naked in the locker room,. And, they also said, “He’s European. He isn’t harming anyone.”

Huh?

Is this facility in Fairfax? It sounds like the place where i go and I could TOTALLY see this happening there 😂

A little further north, BT. As far as seeing it happen at your gym…uh…to this day I can’t un-see what Euro-Man was doing and that was a long time ago. Jumping jacks, man. Jumping jacks. He’d do them and somehow move sideways through the aisles. And, if he had been swimming, he would do them with his goggles and cap still on. Who does that?

Never mind…I was told Europeans do that.

I hope your prediction holds for the Men this evening. I see a lot of the '21 Bengals in the Dolphins. This may be a week where they are hobbled, as you suggested. But what I've seen of both teams this year makes it hard for me not to pick Miami - 31-28.

Politicians from both parties know two things: Our economy benefits from the availability of migrant workers and our Immigration system has needed a thorough overhaul for decades. But rather than acting like adults and getting to work on it, they continue playing to their respective Bases because that's where the campaign funds and Primary votes come from. Someone come wake me up when that changes.

Jack White has a song called Icky Thump where he sings about American’s attitudes toward immigrants. One part is quite clever:

Well, Americans, what, nothing better to do?

Why don’t you kick yourself out? You’re an immigrant too.

Who’s using who?

What should we do?

You can’t be a pimp and a prostitute too.

Doc, DeSantis action to send 50 illegals to Martha’s Vineyard was symbolic and trying to re-Inforce the double speak coming from the Dems who say they welcome illegals but only if NIMBY. I live in FL and can tell you we have LOTS of immigrants … many of which are legal but many others not. Your comments could be taken to think that FL should welcome all 2MM illegals that have crossed since Brandon opened the flood gates? I prefer your sports logic, wit and wisdom. I’ll defer from responding to your future political posts. Congrats to Issac and Willie on their well deserved recognition tonight in Bengals lore. Hoping The Men will put a cherry on the evening!

Can you point to the exact policy change that went into effect after Trump that now allows more people in the country illegally? I'm being 100% serious. I hear "...Dems open border policy" all the time but never actually see any facts that point to the real policy that changed. I'm genuinely interested in knowing how Trump (or Republicans) do it differently.

Ok, thank you. If that's truly the case, I would tend to agree with the former policy. However, that shouldn't be an excuse to leave people out for longer than necessary.

I think we all agree the system is broken. It needs to be more streamlined to legally emigrate. Of course a vetting process should be in place. We can do better. And as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, we can use the additional labor. I can't think of a single business I work with that isn't still suffering from a shortage of workers. Problem...meet solution.

Holy Crap Doc- when you mentioned gym issues, just sitting here at home thinking about it raises my BP by 60 points, much being at the gym and experiencing what you’ve described. I have membership to PT & BetterBodies. I’ve run into several issues at BB not so much PT At BB around 3:00 there’s a major influx of local high school jocks which always do as you described, Hoover around certain Hammer Strength machines while on there cell phones or even worse try to set up pivot stations where they turn up 3 stations at one time. I try to work around them or switch to cardio but damn this shit is getting old, BB’s is under new ownership so of course they raised the fees and yet all the hand sanitizer station ( everyone) has remained empty for the last 6 months, and Ohhhhhh yeah they cut down on their hours, to new COVID hour’s still in effect. I may eventually pull the plug on them but I hate to loose the use of the HammerStrength stations, but any more monthly fees increases this Jonny Thin wallet is out of there. Personally I don’t see how they continue staying in business, with lack of daily cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep. I guess some corporation is milking it to unload at a later date . Ohhhhhh and the cell phone peoples numbers just seem to be increasing, ok rant over!!!

The gym situation really tees me off.

Wish we could see tonight’s game, but the last thing we need is another streaming service! Put TNF back on NFL, which is part of our Direct TV pkg.

Every time the Bengals are on Primetime I see these comments. 100% wrong.

PSA for everyone: EVERY Bengals game airs on a local station regardless of the actual service/cable station broadcasting it. I believe tonight's game will be on channel 9.

You are never blacked out from watching a Bengals game anymore. Those days are done. Even if they're home and it's not a sellout...the game will air somewhere on local TV. You're welcome...and please spread the word.

I don’t live in Ohio anymore, Brian, but am still a Bengals lifer. The game will not be on local TV in Colorado. When the Broncos play TNF, the game will be aired locally, but not the Bengals.

There is a direct tv channel for Amazon Prime, channel 9526.

Apologies...people here locally still complain every time they play on Thursday or Monday night. Same as when the Reds play on YouTube or Apple TV+. All of those games are free to watch, and in the case of the Bengals they air on local TV.

If you have any family members that subscribe to Prime maybe you could borrow the password for the night? And I agree that the fragmentation we're seeing with sports and streaming is getting a bit out of hand. Good luck.

Re illegal immigration, I thought we liked rules in this space. Lord knows Novak Djokovic garnered no love for not getting vaxxed and missing two majors because "he did not follow the rules."

Meanwhile, we are OK with Biden putting out a welcome sign and millions bum rushing the border? I am in favor or immigration where we get to decide who comes into our country and following the process to do so. I am definitely not in favor of simply allowing anyone from a poor Latin American country who paid someone to cross illegally entering.

Immigration policy has been broken forever, but not enforcing current laws and flying people from the border to Midwest states as the Biden Administration has done under the cover of darkness is not going to fix the problem. Props to DeSantis for bringing the issue to light.

Shame on the national media for getting the vapors over 50 people in a wealthy liberal enclave after ignoring the problem as long as it only affected border states.

Do you even know what the process is to gaining citizenship? It's lengthy and expensive. Thousands of dollars, and you have to know how to navigate the bureaucracy. Imagine how difficult this would be if you gave up everything you owned, traveled thousands of miles under terrible conditions, possibly giving up your life's savings to just have a chance to live a good life. How are you damaged by that? Wouldn't you do whatever you had to do for your family? Yes, the process needs to improve but no way can you lay all of this on Biden. This is a bipartisan problem that both sides own, as NOBODY has done anything to fix it. When you claim to be the greatest country on earth, don't be surprised when others want to share in that. Like Doc says, we NEED these people. The bust their ass. They will make America stronger, not weaker. They always have.

Expand full comment

Please define expensive and explain the process, please. If they're working, perhaps the cost could be deducted from their paycheck just like FIT and SSA, so there are no out of pocket expenses. The path to citizenship shouldn't be prohibitive but it should require immediate participation, include some civic education, a job for the head of household and a pledge of allegiance to the United States.

You will need an attorney. Cost is thousands of dollars for people who have nothing.

The border was under control under Trump. Biden reversed those effective policies. But, yes, neither party is willing to solve the problem. I would revert to the days when people could come and work for the season then return home.

Of course, your post wants to appeal to emotion rather than logic. Expectedly.

Expand full comment

Going back and forth for the season worked for Mexicans, but most of the current migrants are from South or Central America. Yes, human life is an emotional issue. Same reason abortion proponents are so for it even though logically, unwanted births are likely to be a drain on the taxpayers. Your response was a bit snarky. Why do keyboard warriors act like asses when anonymous? I don't think that's what Doc has in mind. If you don't respect me, at least respect him, or stay off his blog.

Agree on who dey pick tnt. Reds can have all the top 100 prospects they want. They have shown no ability to develop any of their young players like senzel and barrerro. And this tightwad owner will likely trade several of em. This org is going nowhere. Careful about DeSantis. Thats our next Prez in 24.

Doc, I've reached an age where I too prefer a more laid-back gym. I mostly go to Planet Fitness. While there is the occasional jerk, it's much rarer.

I agree on immigrants. I don't really get the aversion. Nobody works as hard as immigrants, and most really aren't "illegal". Those that aren't turned away are here seeking asylum. In 1939, the US turned away a ship full of Jews trying to escape Nazi persecution. Ultimately the ship went back to Europe, and roughly 25% were murdered by the Nazis. Many of the refugees coming here are from Venezuela, a country frequently cited by conservatives as something we don't want to be like, so why would we not want to help people trying to escape? How is it different than Cuba? We provide citizenship to Cubans who can land on our shores. Like you said, who are we kidding? Americans don't want to do the real grunt jobs.

I've watched 2/3 of it too. My dad is friends with a guy who was a small boy on the St. Louis. He was taken by a French family. Luckily, the Nazis never came to their country home. Not everyone was so lucky. Our national attitude is mirroring the isolationist Lindbergh rhetoric.
