All talk radio has too many commercials. I love the content, hate the loooooong commercial breaks. Mo is good, if only is audio wasn’t always distorting. He’s the only one who consistently distorts his mic. It makes it hard for me to deal with. That being said, I think Cincy 360 is by far the best sports talk radio happening in Cincy.

Joe Burrow will be 3-0 against the Chiefs by 8 pm tonight. Bet the kid’s college fund and 401k on it. :-)

Correction to myself: Williams did not make a touchdown against the Titans last week. I apologize for the error. Thanks for not going after me on that one. I just got caught up in his exuberance after a great play.

President Obama and Springsteen recently did a podcast - "Renegades" I think, and it is both entertaining and fairly insightful. It's worth a listen.

I’m old enough to remember when talk of the Bengals competing, let alone winning, a game against a powerhouse like KC was never even a consideration. I think the world still thinks of the Men in this light. Hopeful and excited to see if the Bengals will wake up the world this weekend! Who Dey!!

Yeah, some people are still getting used to the Bengals being a team that legitimately can beat any team. It's a great feeling as a Bengals fan, though! Who Dey!!!

Not a huge Springsteen fan myself, but there are some of his tunes that I absolutely love and which have guaranteed spots on my iPod -- do folks still use those, besides myself?

One of those is "Drive All Night," one helluva ballad, along with "Stolen Car," both from his ambitious "The River" album. I've found myself, in the past, sitting outside on a summer night just listening to those songs, looking at the sky and contemplating ...

I concur with your call that it will be a Bengals victory, dependent on one defensive stop -- much like the previous two matchups with these squads. Another tight one ... won't be an easy one on those fans of the Men with fickle tickers.

It's funny that you mention the inane amount of commercials while trying to listen to Mo ... my wife and I commented about the ridiculous amount of commercials on WARM 98 while trying to listen to Christmas music (Disclaimer: I've got satellite radio as well, but try to listen to the local stations as much as possible). There was one song, then at least six commercials, then another song followed up by six more commercials. Total madness, and it's a wonder that not everyone is an expert in sleep apnea given the number of times Mike McConnell talks about it in a commercial on 700.

Terrestrial radio is doing a fine job making itself irrelevant

Terrestrial radio died for me around 2006/2007. It was no match for satellite radio and an iPod. Now it's just the phone and a music subscription. The commercials and loud, annoying DJ's keep me away at least from FM. I do occasionally listen to 1530, though.

Terrestrial radio began its slow death with the internet. The internet also killed album oriented rock radio. WEBN is a shell of what it was back in the 80’s thanks to the internet and corporate rock like IHeart radio.

That it is ... and thanks for the Tune of the Day. Another Boss song to add to the antique iPod. Beautiful, beautiful tune.

I have been a huge fan of The Boss for most of my life. Albums, CD's, concerts, E Street Radio, you name it, I've spent the Benjamins to listen and participate. But when the music stops and the conversation starts, he and I have little in common. Could be the East Coast, left of center, tell other people how to live mindset, I don't know, but beyond the music and lyrics, he has nothing that appeals to me. But then, the music and lyrics are all that really matters, right?

I agree with most of what you’re saying about “After the music stops…” But, I’ll have to add he has nothing that appeals to me INCLUDING the music and the lyrics. I gave it a try a couple times. I find it rather dreadful. Bruce always sounds like he’s trying to pass a watermelon when he’s “singing “

Just not for me

Loved, loved, loved the words and pace today, Doc. Pure poetry.

I was hoping for some Irish ingenuity to shed more light on the UC coaching search. Seems to me the wait is either because Jason Candle’s Rockets are playing tomorrow or UC hasn’t agreed to Jim Leonhard’s terms. Since Herman is out, I’d like to see Leonhard get the job so we and Wisconsin can see who made the better choice.

Hard to argue Bruce as Tune of the Day, but I thought you might show a little love to Christine McVie (with her recent passing) & Fleetwood Mac. She was the steady, understated influence of that band's remarkable run in the late 70s, amid all their interpersonal, self-inflicted turmoil. Nicks may have been the sex, but McVie was the soul. And sung/wrote many more of their hits than people think.

Sirius is using the Deep Tracks (27) channel as Christine McVie channel now. Not sure how long it will last.

Mo is the best, but you are spot on regarding the commercials.

I don't have ED or PE, so Dr. Brown is not reaching me.

I can't listen to commercial radio anymore for the commercials.

Doc, I’m with you on both counts ... 1.) I too really enjoy Mo Egger. He’s an excellent interviewer. Is opinionated but not obnoxious about it. He has the ability to get the listener to openly consider the opposite side of the discussion, while opening considering yours. 2.) Way tooooo many commercials. I try to wait for ad free podcasts.

Thus far, the Bengals have mastered the art of "cocky but not arrogant."

They know they have what it takes to win, and they demonstrate it repeatedly without being jackasses.

Still, I'm a lifelong Cincinnati sports fan conditioned to abject misery and heartbreak always lurking around the corner. That's why Burrow, Chase, Higgins et al play the game and I merely watch in my living room 1,800 miles away in Arizona.

Speaking of which, I'm going to be in Cincinnati briefly next weekend. Thank you, Allegiant, for cheap airfare (yes, I know, its Allegiant). I've conversed with Bengal Boy (he's also a huge Rush fan) and a few others on Twitter and there's a really great Bengals community on Twitter.

While I have no plan nor desire to attend Bengals-Browns, I'm half tempted to go to Bengal Jim's tailgate. Is it worth it?

If you do end up going to the Bengal Jim's tailgate let us know how it is! I may check it out for a game coming up.

Greatest band in history

Saw them for the first time when I was 14 on the 2112 tour and every tour after that at least once sometimes 3 or 4 times. Probably saw them at least 70 times

Expand full comment

I'm 39 but saw them every time they played in Arizona since 2004, so six concerts, including the third-to-last ever concert in Phoenix in 2015. Neil Peart dying in January 2020 was the first sign that was going to be a bad year.

Hell, I stood in line to fist bump Geddy and get a signed copy of his Big Book of Bass in 2019.

I know they're not Paul's favorite (conversely, I can't stand Van Morrison), but good to know there's some others here who like their music.

Yes. It is nice to see someone else on here even mention them. You’re the first one I’ve seen.

As far as when you said “Oh god, not the other” assume that was in reference to Rush Limbaugh? If so, I guess we’ll just have to disagree on that. Have a good weekend and Mega Dittos my friend

Great call on “If I Should Fall Behind.” I think it’s Bruce’s most underrated song. It’s right up there with his best songs.

Like your who dey prediction. If this game is like both last year it should be highly entertaining.

I'll give the generally obnoxious H. Stern some credit for leaving his shock schlock at the studio door. But I agree that the Springsteen interview left much to be desired. As much as I love Bruce, he's never been a great interview. He comes across as extremely likable. His lack of Rock star cockiness is as refreshing as the 'wind blowing back your hair'. But the social awkwardness that may have fueled some of his art does not lend itself to the give-and-take of a two hour interview. At least that was my take.

The Boss IS awkward, Pat. Great point. I was flipping through channels last week and happened upon Seth Meyers interviewing Bruce. Awkward, yes, but he actually came off funny, charming, and relaxed with Meyers. Several bits of that interview are on YouTube. Here’s one of them with Bruce answering if his kids like his music.
