I think the Reds may be America's team because they are underdogs, never give up, and are fun to watch. I'm concerned about the cockiness if it goes beyond youthful exuberance. Since success in sports is definitely impacted by confidence, hopefully this will help them continue to hit and pitch well in key situations.

Although Cincinnati metro area is fairly conservative, the city and Hamilton county are beginning to look more like Cleveland politically, and Aftab appears to be using San Francisco as his model. I hope voters here learn their lesson and and vote in more moderate candidates the next time around.

Have a great trip. I hope you have an opportunity to take a train in Italy to really enjoy the scenery. My favorite train trip ever was from Zurich to Milan through the alps and Como. I look forward to hearing about your food, wine, and local cultural experiences.

Ali said he was "The Greatest" and with Howard Cosell's help, he became "The Greatest", as it still stands today in the crossword puzzles...and for me "Pittsburg is still 'The Stealers'" until the Bengals put them away long enough for them to be just a bad nightmare of the past.

Good Travels to you.

No interest in being America's team. For some reason, Cincinnati media has an inferiority complex. It trumpets every heretofore unheard of poll that says Cincinnati is "top 10 at this, top 10 at that", etc. Personally, I'd rather we were undiscovered except to Fortune 500 companies. Having everywhere but L.A. behind us as underdogs in the Super Bowl was fun, but that's different than being America's team. Not sure how Dallas earned the title, maybe it had to do with that star on their helmets, or possibly the All-American Cincinnatian at quarterback. The Republic of Cincinnati is very patriotic but more clannish in the sense they would rather a local team conquer the rest of the nation than represent it. Two long songs I never need to hear again are American Pie and Freebird. American Pie is genius but worn from overuse and Freebird is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Ciao! Enjoy the trip!

We traveled as a family of five and none of us encountered issues with the fountain water. We didn't discriminate in Tuscany and were more choosey when we got to Rome and Sorrento, but again, no issues.

Safe travels & worth noting the players who were offering up “America’s Team” were doing it tongue-in-cheek. Which is another reason to trust your heart to this squad.

1. Safe travels and memorable times

2. No thank you to the America's Team designation.

3. Yet, Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, "How can you no be romantic about baseball." And the Men, "Why Not Us?" a couple years back.

4. It may not be much of a sample, may not portend the future - immediate or long term- but boy... it sure is fun. This Reds team is entertaining as any we've had in many years.

It's almost like McGovern's run for President. Idealism at its finest. But sooner or later the bubble will burst. A lot of it is smoke and mirrors. The starting pitching staff is walking on eggshells, bullpen's arms will be falling off by August, rookie hitters sooner or later get figured out.

For now, Let's just enjoy the ride. It beats losing 100 games. And the future (for the next 5 years, of course) looks fairly bright. Who could have predicted in a million years so many prospects would mature at precisely the same time and come up contributing? It's astonishing.

Soooo much to unpack here, but first things first - Have a wonderful trip! That's a bucket list trip for me...someday. Soak it all in...

Onto "America's Team..."

One thing is for certain - we like our cocky earned in Cincy, not manufactured. The whole "Burrowhead" thing was a little shark-jumpy, IMO. Up until that point none of the bluster the Bengals emanated made me cringe. That did. The whole America's Team thing did, too, just a little. I actually mentioned it to my 16-year-old son and he agreed - he wasn't born in Cincy but he has a Cincy sensibility. ;) I've now lived in Columbus 2/3 of the amount of time I lived in the Queen City, and you are right, Cincinnati is its own Republic!

In any event, I won't unpack any more, except to say that nowadays your narrative is whatever you manifest it to be - for better or worse...

Safe travels!

Bon Voyage, Doc. Castellina is a small town between Florence and Siena. They have an Etruscan museum. Also a wine shop with a bottle of Antinori Santa Cristina on display. It survived WW2. We spent days driving to different towns.

Eat gelato, lots of gelato. The secret of Italian wine is that it is meant to go with food. Table wine always works. They know what they are doing.

We were there during a heat wave. Temps look good right now.

I figure the Reds players are having fun and the roster is written in wet sand. Might as well enjoy it before it changes.
