Never ever get rid of the electr8c football game, unless you lose the Draw Play slide. Then it doesn't matter.

I love stuff Doc. Was raised by a mom that still has an antique pump organ (no one on our house has ever played) we just moved for the 5th time. My goal the past 5 years has been net zero; if something new comes in, something old goes out. Waiting for my son to be old enough for his first home so I can unload the boxes of comics I can’t seem to ever follow through with selling. Thank god we live in a region of the country with basements or I might be a pod-guy... Gotta have a spot for the bowling trophies and fraternity composites. Sad.

I won't be clicking the video link that embarrasses all involved. Loved Gio and his story. His Dad can watch him play some in Tampa.

Books are my downfall. Not first editions, just books that glow on the shelf and wait to be read. Most of them have been read at least once. No storage place, but two of us in a house with basement, study and living room bookcases. A shared Kindle library of 700+.

Christmas is quiet here. We will get together with as many as can be there after the actual holidays. Nobody travels to see us in deadly weather. I'm famous for telling everyone " I love you too much to become a highway statistic." Said when daughter was little. We keep it simple. Kids get presents when there are kids to give presents to.

I have a ton of cousins nearby. My aunt had 8 kids. She has 23 grandchildren and who knows how many great grands. They are adding up too. I don't go to their things much. It can get overwhelming quick.

Have a Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas, Doc. Love that the light is going to start creeping back in.

Great post, Doc. When my father died five years ago, about all the “stuff” he left behind was his golf bag and maybe a couple shopping bags’ worth of childhood photos, high school items, Ohio State mementos. At first I was sad that there wasn’t more, but I got over that. He was never into material things and therefore didn’t leave behind “stuff” for his family to have to deal with. I admire that now.

Nailed. I had a storage unit for a time, but that was when I had moved 3 states and from a house (with a basement) into an apartment. But then we got a house again and all the stuff went into the basement, the garage, the spare bedroom (office), and the metal shed out back. I've been culling it (too slowly of course), but the big purge is visible over the horizon. I've collected cars, and I'm getting better about that (but I'm buying another one tonight - oops!) But I still have vast collections of desks (!), model cars, and filing cabinets full of decades of car magazines. This is hard.

Well, how fun was this to read, for someone who has told folks they are “downsizing “ only to realize they have moved 4 years of Mercy/Elder yearbooks from the 60’s; tools, that “I might need that; “ & pretty much have moved the entire basement/ garage into the condo storage room. Comments about hoarders; please, not us. Thank you for the smiles & outright laughter today.

re Stuff: I've also gone the experiences instead of stuff route, and it doesn't apply only to Christmas. I'd much rather you buy me a beer and a plate of wings for my birthday than a funny t-shirt or gadget that I probably won't use.

Never understood why reporters have access to a locker room. Time and place for everything and that is not the time or place to interview athletes.

Could there ever possibly be a better gift than time? I steal that gift request every chance I get.

Stuff / junk (stunk?) is a regular source of friction between my wife and me. I am sentimental about many things. Junk is not among them. My basic rule is that if I haven't used it in a year, it's expendable.

Really good stuff regarding the grilling of Geo. Pushiness on any level gets on my nerves. Browbeating an honest man at a time like that is inexcusable.

Doc, I saw the Gio video and thought he was as surprised the reporters asked him the questions as he was during the fake punt. But as a reporter for 40 years the worst thing you can do is insult a source you may need in the future. Now it is all about gotcha reporting on video to upload to the web to get hits. I’m done with watching the news — except for the weather - so I can put together a golf game. BTW - thanks for continuing TML - it’s a fun and informative read everyday.

My pleasure. In defense, dealing with the media is a well-known hazard of the jock's job. But this was wrong.

Hi Paul- Very, very happy to find you here. You and I had lunch together usually four days a week for years when you wrote for the paper. You provided a brief moment of sanity in an otherwise silly world. I will be eternally grateful. I missed our time together when you retired and now I’m glad to see you’re back at the keyboard!! BTW- I live in Canton which I believe is just a few miles from the Arctic circle. My wife loves the cozy nights. Me? Not at all. Although it does provide another reason for bourbon. Try Horse Soldier if you haven’t. Not bad. Thanks for what you do and Merry Christmas to you and yours. PS- we bought a furnace for Christmas.

What a great finish to an otherwise rather chilly vignette! The perfect Christmas Present, indeed.

I had a storage unit once when I retired and took off in my VW Van to travel. My kids were grown and I left the key with my son. I told them to take whatever they could use. Three years later, my daughter told me my son sold what was left. I miss some of the antiques, and especially my old 45 records...but he told me he still has them.

What I wish I'd kept were my piles of comic books from way back when. I started giving those away when my mom suggested she take them to a hospital where she worked and that I did. Wish like heck I had kept them, but I'm sure the kids loved them. Today I could have retired on them.

I love getting new golf balls for Xmas, I like the Calloway Soft Chromes. But each time I take a new one out to play it either goes into a lake, into the woods, or at least slams into a cart path or tree.

Otherwise, I like gift cards for art supply stores, or anywhere to go out to eat. I would love to have tickets to see my kids. That's the best idea for sure. Merry Christmas and Keep Writing!

Always enjoy your take. We grew up poor in a single parent household but mom always went a little nuts on presents at Christmas. I think she spent the next 12 months every year paying off that credit card only to start over again the next Christmas. We probably spoil our, now college age, kids on Christmas but enjoy doing it (and grateful we can). I've had some health challenges in recent years so I'm with you on my only real ask is for time.

Loving how the Men are finding ways to win after taking blows the first half of games. They make for some stressful Sunday's but love that they continue to fight.

Merry Christmas to you and all the Mobsters from our family!

Geo admitted it was his fault...he didn't play the blame game the media had hoped for. End of story. He is a nice guy who messed up...or, I think the ball was snapped too quickly. So we can each have our own take on this story...and he may be covering for Tom...and on and on.

I save too much stuff. My wife calls it junk and then throws most of it away as she “straightens up” the shed and basement. Gio handled it well and the reporters should have been thrown out! I liked the music!

One thing I’ve become good at as an adult is NOT hoarding things or holding onto things I don’t need. I despise clutter, and therefore am more than willing to pitch or donate things I don’t need.

So thankful we’ve reached the solstice. Now I’m looking forward to getting back on DST. I wish they’d get the law done to end the time change for good.

I saw the Gio video a few days ago and thought it was rough. I get that they wanted to know what happened on the play but I don’t think their approach could have been any worse. Gio handled himself much better than I might have in the same situation.
