In this era of celebrity coaches and "gurus" I find it very satisfying to see an intelligent, positive, and consistent man like Dusty Baker quietly put together a HOF career. Congratulations to him for finally get his ring and his due.

I was always curious why Dusty and Walt Jocketty never seemed to get along even when he was winning here... I remember your article on him being MIA during the Reds fire sale/rebuild coupled with how Dusty was treated pretty much told me I was not a fan of Jocketty!

So happy for Dusty. Good man indeed. They mobbed him so in the dugout I was afraid they would hurt his neck . Pure joy.

A good man gets his due? I thought this would be about Brian Kelly defeating Nick Saban last night. 😀

Great writing. I am very happy for Dusty mostly due your kind words about him over the years.

Thanks for an inspiring TML, Doc! I have found that "doing the right thing" is easier if you remember we wouldn't even have the flawed world around us unless those of who are inspired to do right follow through consistently. As a child, I was constantly confused by all of the Sunday school admonitions that people heard and promptly ignored upon leaving church. I handle it better as an adult but still...

Doc, this TML is simply beautiful! So happy for Dusty.

Great tribute! My “2 cents”: Seeing the joy inside Dusty which he expressed with such class and perspective post game was the best part of the Series--and also the best possible ending.

The only time I really disagreed with his managerial tendencies was when he played Corey Patterson in CF and batted him first, and also playing Rolen in that 2012 NLDS. Other than that, he was a great manager for the Reds. He just didn't have the horses to win the whole thing here.

I am happy for him, and I do think he is the coolest manager the Reds have had since Sparky. He's probably the best they have had since Sparky, too, barring Sweet Lou.

As a Washington Nationals fan, who lived in Cincinnati while Dusty was manager, I feel like he was unfairly let go from both the Reds and Nats. All the guy does is win and treat everyone with respect. The Nats 2019 World Series championship should have been Dusty's. I was rooting for him personally to win (not the Astros). The Lerner family that owns the Nats has made a lot of mistakes and firing Dusty was one of them.

So happy for Dusty! He is a class act! Miss seeing him in a Reds uniform.

Dusty deserves the championship! Remind me again why the Reds fired him.
