Division road game win in the cold and wind, I'll take it! Chrisman was as hoped in the preseason for many of us. Getting distribution and building confidence and timing for the 2nd option receivers and RB was terrific. Still, Pitt has 3 wins for a reason. They are hitting their stride ... I hope!

For some reason the West Side and Northern Kentucky gets a lot more play than deserved when it comes to accents in Cincinnati but the city is much bigger than that. I grew up here (father from northeast Ohio, mother rural Pennsylvania) and I'd never heard crick for creek or warsh for wash or trayfic for traffic until I was in my 20's. As a kid I could already pull up a NKY accent because I heard it enough. Not so with a West Side accent. I do say Chevy-ut for Cheviot because that's the way it's spelled.

I did grow up saying "Please" though when I didn't hear something properly.

Joe is always "in" the game. I can't stay in an 18 hole golf game. There is no comparison, I know. Our Best Running Back is now running the ball in my book. He carries guys on his back. Most reliable.

Cinci does have an accent: How about "thoo" the ball, instead of throw. And this one word "didjaeatyet?" An important culture of Cincinnati for sure. Was proud of our offensive line...so was Joe. I saw him give some of them a hug after their last touchdown. He had time to do his job.

The announcers for the game yesterday couldn't stop talking about Pittsburg. It was so annoying.

They even had to say, after an error a Bengal's player made..."ah...Bengals, Bengals, Bengals..."in disgust. Then somewhere in all that jabber they had to throw "thoo" into the conversation" how horrible the Reds were this year. (Yeah, guy, we got that already...we have no Reds at this point.)

Thanks, Paul, for this space to vent, and give atta boys when we can.

We waited eight years for the USMT to get a draw. Who Dey! The Men are peaking at the right time. Will it be enough? The B-more Ratbirds are much improved over last season’s version

I’m with you, Doc on everything but the unis. I love them. Don’t want them every game, but still love them.

I’m a fan of the white uniforms. There are some huge snow cats in China. I follow a young biologist who is finishing doctorate on them. May not be tigers, but Bengal tigers are orange anyway.

Burrow does entertain. You can see the game coming together in his face. They had me worried for a while.

UK had a quality loss against Georgia on Saturday. Expected a slaughter.

My son in law is a west sider. Of course he spent time on active duty in Navy so that messes with things. Military puts a twist on everything.

Always a pleasure to read the column after a W, especially against Pittsburgh. Their fans are finally feeling some of the frustration and disappointment Cincinnati fans have felt for years. On to the Ten Things.

1. The Bengals have shown that they can play up to the level of their opponents. Let's see, Patrick Mahomes last year? 2-0. Ryan Tannehill, 1-0. I'd rather they play top tier than backups. After all, it was against the Bengals Brett Favre had his breakout game. Overall the line was much better yesterday I thought. The biggest issue was tipped balls and an incredible catch by TJ Watt. I mean, what can you say about that? None of the INTs were on Burrow, IMO.

2. Agreed, running the ball first is not necessary in this iteration of the NFL. The NFL skews the rules to encourage passing. Some of the 3rd down penalties against the Bengals yesterday were pure BS. If you throw the ball, if there is a penalty, there's a better chance it will go against the defense. If you run, often times big runs are called back for offensive holding. With the weapons the Bengals have, they should throw more. Oh, and BTW, is it just me, or does it seem like Perine is a stronger runner than Mixon?

3. No doubt Pratt is a fine LB.

4. Not sure we can get down on DJ. He did just come of an injury, is probably not 100%, and probably isn't in as good as shape. He should continue to improve, but I'd have to see film of him to properly evaluate.

5. I happen to like the B&W, but everyone has an opinion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

6. See #5.

7. This defense has generally performed better in the 2nd half. Have to give credit to the DC and assistants. They seem to be making the proper adjustments or have a very strong whip.

8. Hard to disagree with this one. But hey, we've got Eli Apple! :-)

9. TJ is a difference maker like his brother. Fortunately he wasn't as disruptive as Game 1.

10. My take is that the Bengals are never as good as their best games nor as bad as their worst. Every team means different matchups. It's like facing a different pitcher. For whatever reason, this team doesn't match up well with the current Browns. But that means nothing for the game against Tennessee.

Lastly, kudos to Drue Chrisman. Generally if a punter gets any recognition, it's for what they screwed up. Not much was said about him yesterday, in fact, he was at least one time identified as Huber. He did a good just punting and holding for kicks. Nothing like subzero degree temps for your debut. And on that subject, McPherson had a solid game. Kickoffs seemed short but probably attributable to wind and cold.

Who Dey everyone and Happy Thanksgiving. Every one of us won the lottery by being born or naturalized here in the USA. Please remember our servicemembers and first responders while you chow down.

Life can get stressful and looking forward to Sunday's games is a great distraction. Seeing them win is pretty awesome. Should they have won by more? Who cares! I will be happy about the win and let's move on to the Titans. In our family business we take one project one client at a time and give 100% for each. We don't look to the end of they year hoping we finish well. I hope The Men do the same. Give the Titans 100% focus and just go win. I don't care if by a field goal or 2 TD's just win. Looking forward to Sunday at 1pm and reading your column next week. 😀

The white uni's are ok. I wish they'd have done something more creative with the new helmet, but I guess this new one is kinda cool. However...i have a problem with the "color rush" jerseys which is what they wore yesterday. I just don't like them overall. The black sleeves, the block numbers...I'd take their normal white jersey over color rush anytime. Plus...am I the only one that thinks making the "color rush" jersey white is sorta ironic? To me, white is devoid of color but I digress. And please don't tell me what their record is when they wear certain colors.

I like how the offense looked yesterday. Patient and methodical were words that came to mind. The defense didn't look as sharp. I'm sure some of that was the fact that Awuzie is out. Bates looked like his head was somewhere else at times yesterday. The offense is going to have to stay productive to keep some pressure off of that group. Big difference playing defense with a lead.

The Bengals’ white uniforms look like a poor imitation of those troopers in the original Star Wars. If The Family sticks with b/w color scheme, make the stripes more prominent covering the whole jersey, pants and socks. Then go back to the orange and black on Super Bowl Sunday.

The NFL talking heads in the media are part of the "show" the way I see it, so I don't pay much attention to them. Sports are entertainment, of course, and it's clear that plenty of fans want to enjoy the trash talk and the posturing that comes with the package. The mute button is well known on my remote.

As for me, I prefer more of a focus on play calling and the strategies that drive success. Why play zone or man to man? What to call under certain conditions and so forth given the situation. Any useful fantasy tips are sold gold as well but the mindless chatter on the circus around the circus is pretty much drivel to me.

Regarding accent-less places, Doc, I read a book recently called "How Iowa Conquered the World". It describes how small-town Iowa influenced food production (Norman Borlaug), the creation of Silicon Valley, Utopian communes and transcendental meditation, and most importantly here, the General American English accent spoken by all actors and broadcasters. It's a native son telling the story but still quite entertaining and thought provoking. If you want to obsess on why we say things differently across this great land, I recommend it.

Learned something new today. Didn't know about white tigers not existing in the wild. Thanks. The uniforms, however, should exist on the field (twice a year is nice).

If you’ve lived in Cincinnati long enough and you travel, someone will eventually recognize where you live because you pronounce the letter “I” in the longest form possible. Five becomes “F-EYE-v”.

Of course, most of the language influence here is from early German and Irish immigrants mixed with both northern and southern dialects because of the city’s location.

On the west side, they refer to traffic with the acronym “FEST”; the e, s, and t standing for “east side tourist”.

Love the white helmets..in moderation. I never really detected a “Cincinnati accent”. The examples cited could also be cited for NKY, Pittsburgh, and others. Some regional accents are so hard it’s difficult to understand people. Think “ah men” for “Common” in New England or “Win-ster” for “Winchester” deep in the KY hills. I never experienced that in Cincinnati, and “warsh” is pretty common in Western PA as well.

There's definitely a Cincinnati accent. "Creek" is "Crick," "Wash" is "Warsh," and heaven knows there's about 50 different ways that "Cheviot" is pronounced, depending on what part of town you're from. I've heard "Shiviot," "Chevy-ut" and even jokingly "Chev-wah."

The Men impressed me, and as you wrote, it was Joe Burrow -- or as one Twitter account has him, Col. Joseph Lee Burrow -- leading the charge. His is a leadership on the field that empowers those such as Samaje Perine, Trent Irwin and others to really take that "next man up" mantra to heart. As Dan Hoard said on the radio broadcast last night, "If you had Samaje Perine scoring three receiving touchdowns in a single game on your bingo card, congratulations." That team, simply with Burrow stepping on the field to lead them, feels it can beat anyone, anywhere ... it's a similar mentality the Big Red Machine had when they stepped on the diamond. Can they take four of the next seven? I'm starting to believe they can, if not more than that.

And let St. Joe remain ignored by the "cognoscenti," as I believe it puts a nice chip on his shoulder as well.

I'm kinda digging the white unis ... and they're undefeated in them. And, if you are a longtime fan of the Cincy-Pitt rivalry, it was somewhat poetic -- the white hats (The Men) against the black hats (the Stillers in all black). Or maybe it was more "Spy vs. Spy" like.

Smooth "Tune" for today. That was music for enjoyment's sake. You could tell the whole crew was digging just playing to be playing.

I don't think Crick and Warsh are Cincinnati accents. Crick sounds like Western Pa. And Warsh sounds like Kentucky. Marge Schott had what I would call a Cincinnati accent.
