When you’re retired, you can do all the unnecessary things you dreamed of doing when you were working, such as drive eight hours each way for a couple cases of beer.

What is life without quests? A few lifetimes ago, I had a quest to discover and purchase one of those wall-sized tapestries of Dogs Playing Poker. You know the one.
I could find it on Amazon, but that wasn’t the point. The point was to wander the country seeking it. The quest took me to flea markets, truck-stop superstores and even Mexico. When the Super Bowl was in San Diego one year, I spent an afternoon in Tijuana.
I mean, if you can find velvet Elvii in every bodega and wax statues of Jim Morrison in every window, DPP oughta be a snap. It wasn’t, as it turned out.
