Bill Belichick is leaving the New England Patriots. At least that’s the word, apparently to be made official at a noon news conference. There isn’t enough time here to recount all of Belichick’s achievements or impact on the NFL. So let’s just re-quote him — “We’re on to Cincinnati’’ — and leave it at that. That statement, uttered multiple times on Sept. 29, 2014, minutes after KC blew out the Patriots, is a suitable enough summation.
It speaks to who Belichick was as a coach. It takes a sort of ruthless impatience to win lots of games. . .
