It’s been a while since I have helmed the Friday keyboard so let’s hope I can shake off the cobwebs and make this interesting.
TML humorist, JP, asked me last week in the comments about attending the U2 concert at The Sphere in Las Vegas and suggested I write about it. I replied I would if Doc wanted. At 11 p.m., Doc posted “I want” so here we are.
The Sphere. For the uninitiated, The Sphere is the $2 billion globe-shaped theater in Las Vegas. It resembles a giant Amazon Echo Dot. It is owned by Madison Square Garden Entertainment, the same entity that owns and has mismanaged the NBA Knicks for years.
The exterior is adorned with 1.23 million LED pucks which can be programmed to show varying images – Earth viewed from space, a smiling face emoji, an eyeball, a jack o lantern, or a cat trapped in a ball, among countless others. The interior seems like the realization of Walt Disney’s vision of the future from 60 years ago as depicted in Space Mountain and other parts of Tomorrowland, albeit without the Art Deco fonts.
