Gregg Doyel is a loose cannon. He writes what he feels and sometimes what he feels gets him in deep. The Indy Star just benched its star sports columnist for two weeks, without pay, in the aftermath of a weird and clumsy exchange between Doyel and Caitlin Clark, newest member of the WNBA Indiana Fever, at her intro presser. To wit:

“Hi, Caitlin, Gregg Doyel, Indy Star. Real quick, let me do this,” Doyel said to Clark before flashing a heart sign.

“You like that?” Clark asked.

“I like that you’re here. I like that you’re here,” Doyel replied.

“I do that at my family after every game, so,” Clark said.

“OK, well start doing that to me and we’ll get along just fine,” Doyel responded.
