And so it begins. Hamilton County has released preliminary plans for a reno of Paycor Stadium. The estimated cost is $1.2 billion, which is roughly $400 million more than the palace cost when it was new. And if you think the estimate will resemble closely the actual cost if the project is agreed upon, well maybe you just flew in from Mars.
We’re still paying for PayTooMuchCor, by the way. The half-percent sales tax didn’t come with an expiration date.
If you were here back in the early and mid-90s, you recall the wrangling and theatrics prior to the vote to approve the sales tax. Hey, is that Mike Brown in the lux-box in Baltimore? Why, yes, I believe it is.
The difference this time is, the three folks on the Hamilton County Commission say they’ll demand that negotiations be transparent. Which is good for people wanting to stay current on how their tax money would be spent, but not so good for a smooth negotiation.
