We won’t say that Hunter Greene’s in-game retching was metaphorical Tuesday night at the Small Park.

The man had a stomach issue, so we’ll just say Greene demonstrated he’s in tune with the general fanattitude around here. (Did I just invent a word?) The Pirates bombed him, went up 8-0 early and coasted.
Frequent Perusers will note I dislike making big pronouncements about anything hardball-related so early in the year. And yeah, 79 games is still early. The Club’s issue isn’t a lack of time. It’s a lack of available talent, and an attitude on the bases and in the field that’s both reckless and, I dunno, cavalier, which is an SAT word for “sloppy’’.
So let’s say this, on June 26: If the Reds don’t commence playing smarter, tighter baseball right now, they won’t be playing baseball in October. They’re 37-42 and drifting.
